Keep Calm and Carry On: A New Take? A few years ago, I started participating in the 52frames photography community. It is a beautifully simple idea. Each week, a challenge or theme is set, and you submit one photo related to it. 52 weeks in a year means 52 challenges and 52 photos, hence "52frames". The only "judge" is yourself. A submission cannot be "disqualified" for not adequately meeting the challenge/theme. There are no rankings or awards, just a community of photographers who may comment, make suggestions, or offer appreciation. Each week, a panel of "pickers" chooses 52 photos from among the submissions to highlight—the 52picks. The pickers change each week, and the picks are entirely subjective and not based on specific technical or artistic criteria. This year, I am on track to complete the entire year of challenges for the first time! 47 down, 5 to go! Along the way, I have learned a lot about photographic and (digital) processing techniques. I cannot deny being pleased that two of my submissions this year, including last week's, have been featured in the 52picks list. But more important than appearing in that list is this... I was not as happy with my shot last week as I have been with some previous submissions that did not get "picked". This shows we can't always rely on our "inner critic". Often embodying the "stiff upper lip" national stereotype of Brits, this is perhaps a more optimistic and satisfying interpretation of "Keep Calm and Carry On". Keep doing your best; someone will appreciate it.

People overcomplicate photography. Listen, if you’re a beginner: Avoid: Falling into the ‘gear’ trap. I did! Only focusing on the latest style trends. Did that too! Over edit your images. I oversaturated on Picasa! Instead: Learn from the masters. They are masters for a reason. Look at images and figure out how it was done. Ask questions! Find photographers that inspire you; and ask them questions. Focus on this for the first 6 months. Build from there.

The One Thing I Love About Photography For me, photography is more than just taking pictures—it’s about bringing them to life. Capturing the moment is only half the story; the other half lies in editing. Editing is where the magic happens. It’s where the details emerge, the mood is set, and the story behind the image comes to life. It’s not just about adjusting colors or enhancing contrast—it’s about adding emotion, depth, and personality to every shot. Here’s a small insight into my editing process. Each adjustment is intentional, from highlighting the textures and tones to ensuring the final image evokes the exact feeling I want it to. It’s a meticulous but rewarding part of the creative process. I’d love to hear how others approach their craft—what part of your process brings your work to life? #Photography #EditingProcess #CreativeJourney
