This is absolutely one of my favorite quotes and not only for adults but one I instill among my children. Being the mother of two teenagers. I emphasize the importance of respectful communication, and setting boundaries in virtual and face-to-face interactions. In shock at how many youth choose to adopt bullying aggressive behaviors in a virtual environment because it is easier to ignore emotions when you are not able to see one's face. I think it is critical for our children to know to set a direction of respect with their friends in a conversation, ask open-ended questions to understand different perspectives, and respect each others opinions and thoughts ?? to learn from each other. Sometimes this simply doesn't occur and they have had to leave the table. And other times, I have coached my children on why they themselves have been left at the table. Bottom line, start young. Communication, respecting others, respecting yourself and knowing boundaries is an art ??? .
