Fitchett and colleagues show that the SAJS has published articles on many of the important environmental milestones of the last 120 years, and continues to reflect the key issues of the time. In recent years, the Earth & Environmental Sciences portfolio has been dominated by submissions on water quality and climate change, in addition to geology, conservation, environmental policy and planning, waste management, and environmental health. https://buff.ly/48ICMXf

The Journal for Environmental Studies and Sciences is conducting a survey. As an AESS member, AESS annual conference attendee, and/or environmental scholar or professional, your feedback is important to the editorial team at the Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences (JESS), the flagship journal for the Association for #Environmental Studies and Sciences. The survey will ask you to reflect on your thoughts about JESS, general approaches and expectations you have when #publishing your work, and for feedback on the journal's updated aims and scope. Have you been wondering how to get your students excited about environmental science? You don’t have to go off-site to give them the opportunity to explore ecological systems, learn about data collection, and engage in scientific inquiry. Vernier biology expert Colleen McDaniel shows you how to introduce students to testing the soil, air, and water around them using Vernier technology—all without leaving your campus! https://lnkd.in/gYixUNrh #EdTech #OutdoorLearning #ITeachBiology

In the spirit of Canadian Environment Week and on this special occasion of #WorldEnvironmentDay, we are celebrating an environmental accomplishment that was three decades in the making! This year, Ducks Unlimited Canada’s Institute for Wetland and Waterfowl Research (IWWR) reached—and surpassed—a remarkable milestone: its 800th scientific publication. This exciting achievement results from IWWR’s longstanding commitment to scholarship and strategic foresight in environmental sciences. Since 1991, IWWR’s research community has deftly navigated shifts in ecological questions, methodologies and paradigms in response to the changing world around us. Since its founding, DUC has embraced a scientific approach to conserving wetlands and associated uplands that support North America’s waterfowl populations and ecosystem services that directly improve human health and livelihoods. I think my colleagues in the industrial ecology and geospatial communities will be interested in a new indicator developed by Etienne Berthet and myself which is now part of this year's Global Commons Stewardship Index. We made use of several global datasets on crop distribution (FAO, GEOGLAM (Group on Earth Observations Global Agricultural Monitoring)), land use change (Global Forest Watch) and carbon storages along with MRIO Tables to establish a link between exported goods and their impact in terms of land use change-induced carbon emissions by each country. The 4th edition of the GCSI is a collaboration between the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, The University of Tokyo and Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy, and provides the latest statistics on production-based and consumption-based impacts on the Global Commons. The report calls for global governance mechanisms to curb negative?#spillovers?and safeguard the Global Commons. Calling all scientists and practitioners working to understand the physical and environmental impacts of war and conflict ?? The Conflict and Environment Academic Network has a session at the #AGU24 Fall Meeting -- please submit an abstract if you work in this domain and plan to attend! Conflict impact assessment is an emergent research discipline and we need to increase our coordination and communication around all the work that's going on to track the footprint of war. "We intend for the session to contribute to building collaborations and capacities across science, policy, and practice domains, advance the science of conflict impact assessment, and ultimately help address the challenges at hand."
We are seeking abstracts for our AGU session "Tracking the Footprint of War: Earth and Environmental Science Perspectives on Monitoring Conflict Impacts" happening between 9-13 Dec 2024 in Washington, D.C. Submission due date: July 31, 2024. https://lnkd.in/eH4FwtKE Corey Scher, Jamon Van Den Hoek, Iryna Dronova, Eoghan Darbyshire
