The US House of Representatives has passed a bill requiring President Joe Biden to send additional weapons to Israel. The Israel Security Assistance Support Act was approved 224 to 187, mostly along party lines. Sixteen Democrats joined most Republicans in voting yes, while three Republicans joined most Democrats in opposing the measure. This bill acts as a rebuke to Biden for halting a single shipment of arms to Israel. Ukraine's domestic drones are great but with something like a bridge, there are things a penetrating 1,000 lb warhead like that of Storm Shadow/SCALP/Taurus can do that 50-80lb drone warheads moving at 1/4 the impact velocity simply can't. This week we celebrate the adoption of the Geneva Conventions of 1949. The ongoing conflicts in the Ukraine and the Gaza reinforce the importance of adherence to rules regulating the means and methods of armed conflict. The rules of armed conflict include Article 36 which requires states to determine the legality of weapons before their use in armed conflict. The development of new technology weapons reinforces the significance of legal reviews. This is to ensure the development and use of weapons, including autonomous weapons, is lawful and to confidence confidence building measures. If you are researching or developing new technologies that may have applications in Defence industry, please reach out to consider whether they are subject to an Article 36 legal review.
