We're doing a fun little game for Cyber Awareness Month here at Deepwatch. We will be posting 10 movies and ciphers from today to friday of next week early in the morning and then posting the answer to the puzzle at the end of the day. The goal of the game is determine a single word of cyber importance composed from a letter in each of the puzzles. More details here: ?? It's officially Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and we've got your mix of spooky, ciphers, and cyber awareness! ?? Join us for the next 10 days for our hashtag #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth Cipher, where you can follow along each day and use the clues to solve the secret cipher at a chance for a prize. Here's how it works: Each day, a clue will be shared here on LinkedIn. The answer to the clue is the title of a famous Halloween film that we will tie back to a cybersecurity awareness concept. Within the clue, there will be two bolded numbers. 1?? The first number indicates which word in the movie title to focus on. 2?? The second number specifies which letter in that word to use. If there is only one bolded number, that means the movie title is only 1 word and that letter is part of the cipher answer. ?? See the example in the image below! Check the comments for the answer & cyber awareness tie-in! Each day, one randomly chosen participant who guesses correctly will win a prize. We will kick it off with our first clue tomorrow morning. Here's why we chose it. The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween classic where distinct worlds collide–sometimes accidentally, sometimes intentionally. Similar to cybersecurity, we need to think about how different environments, systems, and assets are interconnected, both in ways we anticipate and in ways we don’t. Lateral movement is like Jack wandering into Christmas Town–unexpected but made possible by overlooked links. During Cybersecurity Awareness Month, focus on lateral movement between systems either from known lines of connection or think about how accidental connections could be made when something isn’t done exactly right, or an expected workflow not followed. After all, a small misstep could open a doorway to something entirely unintended. Let’s think of clowns and PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) in the same way for Cybersecurity Awareness Month. They’re interesting distractions that sneak in unexpectedly and grab your attention—sometimes harmless, sometimes terrifying, and sometimes capable of causing serious damage.
