Last year I received a verbal offer from a local company, with a follow-up e-mail summarizing the parameters that the offer would contain (salary/bonus/RSUs/vacation). I was told that the official offer would come in one week. Two weeks later I called the recruiter and was told they "decided to go in another direction" after discussing with the CEO (his approval of the RSUs was needed). I was quite disappointed initially, and briefly considered if I might have legal options to pursue. Then I realized that having the CEO derail a months-long recruiting process at the 11th hour was a red flag, seemingly exposing poor communication/culture. This was probably not a company I would enjoy working for, so I moved on and landed a role that I had been trying to move into.
