stunned by this statement of a well known conglomarate of INGO.. facing the official anouncement of the US government about the "freezing" of humanitarian funds, it seems that the arguments devloped by such is about "[...] It stops assistance in countries critical to U.S. interests", starting that "[...] the impact to U.S. influence globally will be irreparable.", highlignting that it can jeopardize "[...] maintain our nation’s global leadership and values" . On top of that, it seems that it can also Impact "support America’s global leadership and creates dangerous vacuums that China and our adversaries will quickly fill." So, INGO, members of this, have an objective to support america's global leadearship ? and we have now "adversaries" ? but more than that: our intervention looks like to be linked to a gouvernement interest : "It stops assistance in countries critical to U.S. interests, ". I was naively thinking that we are operating based on population's needs but is there some colleagues, members of #interaction, who put the US interests above our humanitarian principles? you know, a couple of time ago, we were comitted with neutrality, independance and imparciality... also, most of our organisations are coping with the code of conduct of the red cross stating that the choice of operating is based ONLY on needs of populations FOR them. Not for any interest of any government. I know that "INGO" is a concept more than a reality but some members of this platform are organisations which i have a great respect. Among them, I would like to know what is your position towards this statement. So #ACF #HI #ACTED #MDM ? my dear friends, it is important to clarify your position. In this very volatile and dangerous world, we must stand up for our values and not surrender while our comitment become attacked. This is the longest post i did in my life on the social medias but the stake is existential. Virgile. Over and Out.
Amazed by the number of NGOs represented in this statement. They are all there!

1 个月The scramble is on here for US NGOs. While humanitarian principles matter, InterAction members run the gamut of many types of NGOs, not only humanitarian NGOs or those NGOs who implement humanitarian programs (in addition to other development and disaster response programs). It is a very broad coalition of members largely funded under US government programs (that implicitly project US foreign policy objectives). Like much of this administration's actions, decisions are driven by ideology with little connection to longstanding relationships/commitments or long-term impact. The InterAction statement has one audience (the White House) and is using the language and points of emphasis that will resonate with that audience in hopes of forestalling the vague, yet draconian, executive orders so as to maintain operations and preserve the capacity to serve partners, beneficiaries, and vulnerable populations. US NGO leadership has some very difficult decisions to make with little time or guidance to mitigate the current extreme risks.
