Galvanic Corrosion Fun Facts: 1. Electrochemical Reaction: Galvanic corrosion occurs when two different metals are in electrical contact in the presence of an electrolyte, like seawater. The less noble metal becomes the anode and corrodes faster. 2.Battery Effect: This type of corrosion is similar to how a battery works. The two metals and the electrolyte create an electrochemical cell, causing the flow of electrical current and resulting in the corrosion of the anode metal. 3.Common Pairs: Common metal pairs that can cause galvanic corrosion include aluminum and steel, copper and aluminum, and zinc and copper. 4.Sacrificial Anodes: A common method to combat galvanic corrosion is the use of sacrificial anodes, often made from zinc or magnesium, which corrode instead of the protected metal. This technique is widely used in marine environments. 5.Nobel Prizes: The principles behind galvanic corrosion are based on electrochemistry, a field that has led to multiple Nobel Prizes, including those for understanding the electrochemical processes and for the development of the lithium-ion battery. ?? How about use GalBar - the exclusive product from curecorr.com to protect the dissimilar metals and stop corrosion before it has a chance to start!!!!

Zircon from Australia could become fiercely contested by China and the United States, a geologist who works with the Chinese military has warned. While zircon is commonly valued as a gemstone, inside, it contains the metal zirconium. The metal can withstand very high temperatures, enabling ceramics, for example, to be heated to above 3,000 degrees Celsius (5,432 degrees Fahrenheit) and providing indispensable protection for hypersonic aircraft. https://lnkd.in/dn4gAEGY

Al is a true CBRN expert, and his insights on the demil program are invaluable.
I produced a video/PPT brief on the history of the Army's chemical demilitarization program for my Substack. It only took 38 years and $42 billion to complete the destruction of the U.S. chemical stockpile. If you'd like to see it, please consider becoming a paid subscriber. https://lnkd.in/eWMRUR_p

What exactly is a "chemical"? ?? A chemical is simply a unique substance that has a defined composition and properties. Water, for example, has the chemical formula of H2O, which means for a chemical to be considered water, it must have two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen! When two or more chemicals interact with each other and create something new, that is called a CHEMICAL REACTION ?? Because these reactions happen on a molecular-level, we can't really "see" that interaction - thankfully, we've got an interactive exhibit that gives you a glimpse of this amazing process! Come visit our Chemical Reactions exhibit and play with the building blocks to life to create different molecules! https://loom.ly/3kTj0tg #chemicalreactions #chemistry #chemicals #molecules #atoms #handsonlearning #sciencemuseum #STEMmuseum #sciencemill #explorejctx #texas
