Soleil Renaud and I will be co-facilitating Yaakaar WHW's International Women's Day event, 'Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges: A Global Women's Movement', where we'll explore the journey of women's rights and celebrate diversity. All proceeds from this fundraiser will be given to our partners in Senegal. Join us March 8 at 7pm PST! Register here: https://lnkd.in/eyW-Sfpg ??? Happy International Women's Day! ??? Today, we're celebrating the incredible women we have the privilege of working with, both here in Canada and in Senegal. From our courageous grassroots leaders to the bright young women we support, each one inspires us with their resilience and determination. Did you know that while women outnumber men in post-secondary education in Canada, they are still significantly underrepresented in STEM fields? Indigenous and racialized women face barriers to pursuing higher education, contributing to this disparity. In Senegal, despite progress in improving school enrollment rates, only 20% of rural girls complete secondary education, while boys' dropout rates are significantly lower at 34.5%. Challenges such as distance to schools, lack of transportation, early marriage, and household responsibilities often force girls to leave school before completing their education, perpetuating the cycle of inequity. These education disparities highlight the importance of this year's International Women's Day theme, 'Inspire Inclusion'. At Yaakaar Women Helping Women, we believe that empowering women through education is key to creating a more inclusive society. By breaking down barriers to education and economic empowerment, we're building bridges towards a world where every woman has the opportunity to thrive. Together, let's inspire inclusion and create a world where every woman has the opportunity to thrive. ???? #InternationalWomensDay #InspireInclusion #BreakingBarriers #WomenEmpoweringWomen

Due to the lack of scholarship funding, I won’t be able to make it to #LeadershipSawubona organized by Akina Mama wa Afrika in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 1st November 2024. This funding gap continues to highlight the challenges we, as young African feminists, face in accessing platforms that amplify our voices. However, I am fiercely committed to the cause. Here's a glimpse of what I would have shared in my workshop titled “Empowering Tomorrow: Youth-Led Movements Shaping African Democracy" What is the issue? Across Africa, young people are driving a new wave of political activism. However, authoritarianism continues to undermine democracy, limiting civic engagement, and silencing marginalized voices—especially young women. This is more than just a political crisis; it's a human rights issue that stifles progress and innovation across the continent. How is it playing out? We are witnessing a rise in oppressive regimes that restrict free speech, limit electoral integrity, and perpetuate inequality; eg, the Anti-rights & Anti-gender movements. Youth, particularly women, are often excluded from decision-making spaces. But despite these challenges, youth-led movements are gaining momentum, refusing to be silenced. From grassroots advocacy to social media campaigns, young leaders are pushing back against authorities, demanding inclusion, and driving reforms. Proposed Solutions: To effectively counter authoritarianism and shape a more inclusive democracy, we need to equip young activists with the skills and tools they need to succeed. This workshop would provide hands-on strategies, from using digital platforms for mobilization to building cross-sectoral alliances. By learning from successful youth-led initiatives across Africa, participants would gain practical insights into driving social and political change. More importantly, this workshop aimed to create a space for young leaders to connect, collaborate, and build sustainable movements. Let’s continue to foster a generation of activists capable of challenging entrenched power structures and amplifying marginalized voices, particularly those of women. This is not just about reshaping governance; it’s about ensuring that Africa’s future is built on the principles of equality, inclusion, and justice. Thank you for taking the time to watch & listen to my ideas in the almost 3-minute video??????. Dear LinkedIn Network, In the first season of HAWA: Helping Afghan Women Advance workshop, I observed that many of the girls struggled to find their voices. They were hesitant to speak up, afraid to share their thoughts, and lacked the confidence to participate even in an audio call. After engaging in one-on-one conversations with most of the participants, it became clear that they have lost their sense of self-worth. The bans and restrictions imposed by the Taliban have significantly diminished their self-esteem. Reflecting on these observations and discussing them with my network, we have decided to focus the second session on a more practical topic that will provide tangible support to Afghan girls in their daily lives. This approach aims to empower them with the skills and confidence they need to navigate their challenging environment. I am excited to share that we are organizing the second season of HAWA titled Building Self-Esteem: Empowering Afghan Girls. This workshop aims to support young Afghan women, particularly those deprived of educational opportunities, by fostering their self-esteem and empowering them to take charge of their futures. To make this initiative a success, I am seeking volunteer instructors who can dedicate an hour of their time to engage and inspire these girls. Your expertise and encouragement can make a significant difference in their lives, helping them build confidence and resilience. If you are passionate about empowering women and have skills in personal development, education, or any related field, I kindly ask for your support. Please introduce me to potential volunteers or reach out if you are interested in participating. We will discuss the topics and subtopics of the workshop in more detail. Together, we can make a profound impact on the lives of these young women, helping them realize their potential and pursue their dreams. In 2018, this piece that I painted for Women’s Day competition at AUAF, resonates deeply in the current context. It serves as a stark reminder of how much has changed, reflecting on a time when there was still hope and a semblance of progress. It stands as a tribute to the courage of Afghan women and a call to action for the global community to support their fight for equality and freedom. Thank you for your support. With love, Women at HAWA

In honor of International Day for Women and Girls in STEM, which we celebrated on Sunday, and International Women’s Day coming up on 8 March, we will spend this month inspiring you with examples of Voltic's unwavering commitment to drive inclusion within our business and in the communities where we operate. Africa, as we know, is blessed with vast economic potential, a wealth of natural resources, a youthful population, and rapid urbanization. And yet, there is a gap between this potential and the reality, a gap that can be attributed to among other factors, the failure to fully develop Africa’s human capital, specifically women. And yet the benefits of including women in the economy are substantial. According to UN Women, women’s economic empowerment boosts productivity and increases economic diversification and income equality in addition to other positive development outcomes. As Voltic, we have made economic inclusion one of the pillars of our Sustainability strategy and are committed to creating gainful economic opportunities for under-served communities (women, youth, and people with disabilities) by providing them with access to markets that boost income and yield sustainable earnings, in our own business and the industry. #inspireinclusion #beinclusive #bettersharedfuture?

Today marks the start of Women's Month in South Africa. Women in South Africa have always been at the forefront of change, from leading households, social initiatives and communities to driving innovative businesses. Yet, many still face gendered barriers when it comes to entrepreneurship. Gender stereotypes about women's competency as business leaders can undermine their confidence, limit their opportunities, and contribute to an unequal distribution of unpaid care work that leaves them with less time to focus on business. This means that business ownership is often more challenging and less profitable for women than it is for men. In fact, South African women's small and medium sized businesses have 33% less turnover than men's, contributing to the economic gender gap. The women entrepreneurs we work with are breaking down these barriers and changing the male-dominated business landscape. Equipped with skills, confidence, networks and support, they are achieving incredible success in business and creating a ripple effect of impact on the world around them in the process. Take Mercy Manzini, whose social enterprise creates jobs for women and advocates against gender based violence, cynthia Thusi, whose sustainable fashion brand recycles discarded materials into beautiful accessories, or Shereen Hassim, whose book business makes education more affordable and accessible for all. You can read Mercy's story, in her own words, here: https://lnkd.in/eqJEPzZx Catalysing an ecosystem that truly supports women entrepreneurs in South Africa requires commitment and collaboration. We are delighted to work with expert partner GIBS Business School (Gordon Institute of Business Science), as well as the South African government through Small Enterprise Development Agency_gov and our marketing agency Flow Communications (South Africa), to support women's entrepreneurial journeys and progress women's economic justice. This Women's Month, join us in celebrating South African women entrepreneurs and recognising their fantastic contributions to societies and economies. #WomensMonth #SouthAfricanWomen #genderequality #womenentrepreneurs

?? Investing in Women is Investing in Sustainable Communities ?? On this Women's International Day of March 2024, let's take a moment to reflect on the profound impact that supporting women can have on building sustainable communities. At AReL, we're deeply committed to this ethos, and we're proud to stand with women around the world as catalysts for positive change. As we celebrate the strides made towards gender equality, it's crucial to acknowledge that there's still much work to be done, especially for marginalized groups such as refugee women. That's why, at #AReL, we're dedicated to empowering refugee women through education, opportunity, and support. Through our initiatives at Action For Refugee Life, we're offering a lifeline to #refugeewomen, providing them with the tools and resources they need to thrive. Our Digital and Business Training Programs equip them with valuable skills, while Remote Job Opportunities offer pathways to economic independence. Additionally, our Business Development Support ensures that they have the guidance and mentorship necessary to succeed as entrepreneurs. However, we recognize that there are often significant barriers preventing women from accessing these opportunities. One such obstacle that we've identified is transportation. Many of our female students face challenges getting to and from our learning center, limiting their ability to participate fully in our programs. That's why we're excited to announce the launch of our Student Transportation Fund. With your support, we can ensure that transportation barriers don't stand in the way of refugee women's education. Your contribution of just $20 can sponsor a refugee woman's transportation for an entire month, opening doors to new possibilities and breaking the cycle of poverty. By investing in refugee women, we're not only investing in their futures but also in the future of their communities. Together, let's create a world where every woman has the opportunity to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society. Join us in making a difference this Women's International Day. Visit our donation page in the comment section to learn more about how you can help refugee women get to and from our learning center and be a part of building sustainable communities for generations to come. #WomensInternationalDay #InvestInWomen #SustainableCommunities #RefugeeEmpowerment #EducationForAll
