Coming into our world as temp receptionist, straight out of Uni 14 years ago, she asked the questions to understand why the business was doing what we were doing, what my meetings I attended were trying to achieve and how she could support. Naturally curious, with a gentle but commercial approach, she quickly fast tracked into my PA, EA, business assistant and now Director of Operations. Kate is always steps ahead of me, ensuring the strategy is front and centre, the team have the tools and support they need for excellence, and is focused but flexible as needed! One of my favorite things about executive recruiting is the opportunity we have to connect and learn from top leaders in the banking industry on a daily basis, and many of the ideas we hear are often applicable to what we do and how we run our business. In a recent statement, Harley-Davidson outlined changes to its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, signaling a shift in its corporate priorities: 1?? One of the best things about welcoming a new employee is the change in dynamic. I took all of the site team for a beer yesterday afternoon to talk through recent method changes, tricky jobs and get their feedback too. It’s hard to believe it is only a month since we welcomed Terry to the team. He already seems like he was always meant to be here! It’s even harder to believe that we are now a team of 7! The last 6 years has flown by but as I reflected with Dave last night, it’s been a lot of very hard work too. ?A Night to Remember at the Suffolk Care Awards ?While we didn’t come away with a trophy last week, being finalists in three categories was a reward in itself. It gave me cause to reflect, it had given us a reason to attend a glittery dinner, dress up, relax and laugh. Not something that happens often enough these days ?? ?What stood out the most wasn’t the accolades, but the experience of attending the awards together as a team. Angela Rippon gave the opening speech and reminded everyone that carers are often undervalued and underpaid ( in my opinion? much overused and overstated buzz words without true context, but that’s another story). However we were there to celebrate and recognise the opposite sentiments, after all that's been our vision for the last 11 years. Yes winning would have been icing on the cake but in a way we still won. One of my team wrote afterwards: "I have no doubt that in the coming years, this company will stand out even more, and people will line up to be a part of this team. It’s not just a place to work—it’s a community where you are valued and supported, where the well-being of both staff and clients is paramount." To me, that means more than any trophy ever could. That’s a big WIN It was a reminder that beyond the hard work, the targets, and the day-to-day, we need to take moments to laugh, dress up, and simply enjoy being together. It’s in these experiences that our sense of community thrives. Here’s to celebrating the small victories, the shared moments, and the incredible people that make this journey so rewarding. ?? Great example of how a team works as a single unit over a fairly long time frame. while they're celebrating 3rd anniversary in a new avatar, I have seen them working together as far as my memory serves - more than 10 years for sure. So, what's the mantra to stick together as a team for over a decade 1. Complete autonomy and sense of ownership. Decision making including very strategic ones such as partner selection is done with everyone agreeing to the same. 2. Total transparency - everyone knows everything about the company including access to the CEO's email ( not advocating this as a best practice though ??), but nothing can be a greater example of transparency 3. Direct and no nonsense communication style including arguments 4. Complete flexibility in working hours. Family priorities come first for everyone and other team members support the person who needs time away automatically. These are few of my impressions as an outside observer who has seen this team through ups and downs.
