The Council on Criminal Justice (CCJ) estimates that there are?more than 181,500?veterans incarcerated in the U.S. and is advocating for the Department of Defense to improve the process and resources for military transition. The Warrior Alliance is investing in this initiative through our Veteran Legal Services Network and recently attended the Cobb County Sheriff's Office "Operation Holiday Honor" to support local veterans with services they will need to reenter society with improved life skills. #veterans #veteranjustice #militarytransition

According to LSC’s 2022 Justice Gap report, low-income veterans and other military personnel received inadequate or no legal help for 84% of their problems! Basic legal help on everyday legal matters should be accessible to our veterans—instead, the legal system is shutting millions of Americans out. At Frontline Justice, we’re committed to raising awareness of how much more support our sailors and soldiers could receive if states adopted veteran-friendly unauthorized practice of law regulations. Juneteenth On June 19, 1865, Galveston, Texas, held a momentous celebration of freedom. Despite the Civil War's conclusion on April 9, 1865, slavery persisted in various states, with Texas being the final Confederate state to abolish the practice. The 135th US Colored Troops, which included my great-grandfather, played a pivotal role in paving the way for General Sherman's journey to Texas. #ICYMI, We share concerns from many experts & advocates following last week's #SCOTUS decision to strike down #JohnsonVGrantsPass. It will surely have devastating impacts on unhoused people in this country — many of whom also struggle with #foodinsecurity. Those who are unhoused are vulnerable in so many ways, which often includes struggling to put feed themselves and their families. Punishing people who struggle is anathema both our Jewish and American values. As our friends at @NCHVorg and @UCLA_Law pointed out, many of America’s #veterans who fought for our country will be impacted by this decision. They deserve support — not barriers or punishments — as they reintegrate into civilian life following military service. The #JohnsonVGrantsPass decision represents the cruelty towards & desire to stigmatize those most in need. It mirrors and emboldens rhetoric we see and hear every day, and it emboldens us to continue to fight for #veterans & all those who are struggling.
