Congrats to Ayesha M. Hudson, owner of A-Peace, on cutting the green ribbon on 9 new sustainable, affordable homes in Ward 8! Yesterday, we celebrated Ayesha's hard work and this new addition to the community along with DC Department of Housing and Community Development, Amazon, Capital Impact Partners, DC Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU), community members, and Ayesha's family and friends, who all made this project possible. ? With a $3 million investment from DC Green Bank, Ayesha made her vision of green, resident-centered development for her community a reality. This all-electric building also features rooftop solar and energy-efficient appliances that will cut carbon emissions and utility costs. ? This project shows the potential of ambitious community leaders collaborating with DC Green Bank to bring their projects to life. We are proud to work with entrepreneurs like Ayesha who want to bring the benefits of the clean economy to their communities. Want to know how we are advancing sustainable development? Tapestry Development Group has successfully installed solar panels on our Highland Terrace II property in Columbus, leveraging incentives from the 2021 federal Inflation Reduction Act. This initiative underscores our commitment to sustainable and inclusive community development. By integrating solar energy, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint while enhancing long-term affordability and resilience for our residents. Moving forward, we plan to incorporate solar panels on two upcoming projects this year, reinforcing our dedication to environmental sustainability. We look forward to sharing the updates as they come. We will continue to implement green initiatives across our developments. #SustainableDevelopment #SolarEnergy #AffordableHousing #GreenBuilding #InflationReductionAct #CommunityDevelopment #EnvironmentalSustainability #TapestryDevelopmentGroup #AffordableHousingGA #CommunityDevelopmentGA #HelpingBuildCommunities #GeorgiaHousingInitiative #HousingEqualityGA

Money doesn’t grow on trees, but it certainly grows on sunshine ? We’re working with Equans UK & Ireland and the LHW Partnership LLP to deliver a new solar farm in Barkham. It’s a great investment for the local area as the solar farm could generate an income of around £2.74 million a year, helping us protect the essential frontline services our residents rely on so much ? It’s also a big win for our plans to help tackle the climate emergency, as the solar farm will generate a carbon saving of more than 6,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year, see thousands of new trees planted, and a significant improvement to the biodiversity of the area through detailed landscaping plans. We’re also creating a new traffic free greenway route to better connect local towns and villages and encourage people to ‘ditch their cars’ ?? Hoosier rural communities are keen to boost their resilience but struggle to find the time and resources to compete for federal funding for sustainability projects. That's where the Indiana Resilience Funding Hub comes in. Since launching in 2023, the Hub has helped secure more than $1M for small communities in the state, including projects that address: ?? electrification ??♀? alternative transportation ? energy efficiency https://lnkd.in/gAtCyrPA

Capital-aligned decarbonization is key to achieving climate mitigation, adaptation, and affordability. I've enjoyed working with Region of Peel's Capital Planning & Project Management, Real Property Asset Management, and Climate Change & Energy Management teams on this and several other deep retrofit projects over the past couple of years. I'm impressed by their commitment to achieving affordability, climate resilience, and climate adaptation for the Peel Living portfolio and their dedication to implementing these complex projects. I'm grateful to be part of a robust team of professionals at WSP in Canada providing full building envelope, capital planning, energy, carbon (embodied and operational), structural, mechanical, and electrical consulting engineering services for the assessment, strategy development, zero carbon leadership, design, construction review, and contract management on this and several other Region of Peel projects. Soon, the renewed building enclosure will emerge from the scaffolding and we will be implementing a new low-carbon HVAC system that provides improved ventilation and cooling for residents. Back in 2022, there was an unique opportunity to think differently... to connect climate leadership & innovation with a portion of funding received by Peel Region from the Canada Community Building Fund. As the opportunity emerged, I remember thinking 'the CCBF funding hasn't been allocated in this way before.... but that shouldn't be a barrier." Proud to say it wasn't. Teams across the Region worked together, and Regional Council approved it. As it turns out, the move was a catalyst for scaling up similar decarbonization work across the Peel Living portfolio. Have a look at the article below.... and BTW, the building featured in the article has since progressed from just installing heat pumps to a full-scale design to achieve Net Zero Emissions! This is what #climate leadership looks like: "Climate justice becomes an all-city, all-bureau agenda. That’s the future of city governance: a focusing of purpose across all bureaus. Holding big businesses accountable for their #carbon footprint and then reinvesting that money back into impacted communities to repair harm is an incredible return on investment. This is how you rethink city leadership to fit the times." New York is investing $32M in the Clean Mobility Program to support community-led projects that tackle local transportation challenges and reduce emissions. The funding will prioritize sustainable mobility solutions like micro mobility, shuttles, and ridesharing to improve connectivity, especially for disadvantaged communities. Administered by NYSERDA, the program offers planning grants up to $100K and demonstration grants up to $3M. Specific allocations include $8M for targeted regional projects, $5M for micro mobility, and $3M for the Bronx. This initiative aligns with NY's goal of 85% emissions cuts by 2050 and complements broader state investments in renewable energy and environmental programs. Apply by August 15, 2024, with potential additional rounds in 2025. #CleanMobility #SustainableTransportation #ClimateAction #NewYork

It's #SolarSaturday, and today we're highlighting a two-time #SolarMoonshotProgram grantee, Community Action Network (CAN) of Ann Arbor, which recently celebrated its two-year #solaranniversary for a couple of solar projects that are part of the Bryant Neighborhood Decarbonization project. These solar projects were made possible thanks to our philanthropic partner, BQuest Foundation, which funded the Solar Moonshot Program grant. ?? Bryant is a neighborhood in Ann Arbor, Michigan, that is engaged in a deep, multi-year effort to become the first fully decarbonized neighborhood in the Midwest. The Bryant Neighborhood Decarbonization project is an effort to work directly with residents in the Bryant neighborhood to design a strategy to improve health, safety, affordability, comfort and get local carbon emissions to zero. The Bryant neighborhood consists of roughly 260 households, of which 75 percent are considered low-income, over 50 percent of residents are BIPOC and 50 percent of residents are renters. This project is about more than solar, it’s about equitable decarbonizing and transforming the lives of a Community of Concern. Over the past year, the solar power systems have been able to produce 9,760 kWh of clean solar power, resulting in thousands of dollars in electric bills savings. Our first Solar Moonshot Program grant to Community Action Network was in collaboration with the City Of Ann Arbor and helped the city’s first clean energy resilience hub come to fruition thanks to our philanthropic partner, #LeftCoastFund. "Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation's Solar Moonshot Program is a critical first step in Community Action Network's effort to create the first pre-existing neighborhood to become carbon neutral in the Midwest! Our innovative approach to neighborhood-wide coordination and collaboration in a predominantly BIPOC under-resourced community will serve as a future template for addressing both environmental and social justice. The Solar Moonshot Program's early on investment has provided the much-needed nudge to ensure success!” said Derrick Miller, the executive director of Community Action Network.
