When it comes to #commercial #simulation #vendors with proprietary methods, you have three choices - trust, test or understand - in increasing order of costs and decreasing order of risks. What you go for depends on your company's culture. If your company's culture is one of reducing expenses via better understanding your tools used in operations, then consider hiring a highly-skilled independent consultant to explain the intricate differences between tools that your in-house staff may not be aware of. In one of my favorite consulting jobs, I was asked to summarize the prevailing wellbore multiphase flow tools and deep dive into their methods providing pros and cons of each. My findings stunned the experts in that company in a positive way. I showed that with a little digging you could even find the details of methods. A big eye opener was that a lot of these methods could be easily coded in google sheets, meaning they could be converted into a REST API if needed. Below is one example I used in that project where I deep dived into a popular commercial tool for the #threephaseflow #holdup calculation for each of the gas, oil and water phases using an iterative two-stage method. One of my own publicly-accessible previous theses was used (on pg. 51, fig. 17 of "Real-time Calibration of Drift-Flux Flow Models"). In another project which did not get off the ground, I was asked to simulate the detailed upward-downward flow paths and multiphase flow characteristics in a range of currently available DHGS (#downholegasseparation) tools. However, I communicated that the premise of the project's objective was wrong because the wells selected with these installed DHGS tools would need to have close to the same multiphase flow characteristics at the inlet location of the tools in order to provide an unbiased, merit-based comparison and quantification of their relative gas separation efficiencies. The wells could be different but at the inlet to the DHGS tools, the flow characteristics would need to be similar. This meant adequate (and further) validation of the wells selected to ensure this requirement. This did not sit well with the potential client because wells were to be selected at random for the comparison and I informed them in that case the project would yield flawed results. Abstract The data necessary for the design, construction and operation of a subsea pipeline system involves many applications and software covering design, construction specifications, fabrication and installation records, inspection database and more. So far, most of the data is exchanged under the format of manually produced reports between clients and contractors, but also to and from manufacturers and subcontractors or other project stakeholders. This was identified as a significant improvement opportunity in terms of cost, time, and quality. As the industry goes through digital transformation, data structuring is a need faced by all. However, diverging data structure creates the need to re-process the data to a mutually acceptable format at each interface point and many times, with a significant cost, quality, and schedule impact. The PDEF project was started with the aim to agree on an industry-wide common interchange format for all the data that is issued in the design, construction, and operation of a subsea pipeline. The primary objective is to exchange data more efficiently between the different parties involved in a subsea field development project. PDEF initially covers subsea pipelines and will be extended to encompass the entire pipeline system, including risers, spools and jumpers, in-line structures and more. PDEF covers the entire product life-cycle, from conceptual studies to operation. PDEF is multi-disciplinary, including business domains such as operating data, linepipe, routing, metocean, geotechnical, fabrication, installation, etc.

*MPFM WORKING PRINCIPLES*...???? *What is MPFM and What is the function and purpose of MPFM.?* Multiphase Flow Meters *(MPFM)* are devices used to measure the individual oil, water and gas flow rates in a multiphase flow. The term *MPFM* is used to define also the metering of wet gas streams (i.e. multiphase flow where the gas content is very high). *How does a multiphase flowmeter work?* Every known physical multiphase flow metering solution relies on a com-bination of at least three or more different sensing technologies, one of the most common of which relies on the Venturi tube using differential pressure sensors to measure flow rate, combined together with another technol-ogy such as gamma ray attenuation to calculate the density and composition of the fluid and the mass/volume fractions of oil, gas and water. *What is the process of multiphase flow?* Multiphase flow refers to the simultaneous flow of more than one fluid phase through a porous media. Most oil wells ultimately produce both oil and gas from the formation and often also produce water. Consequently, multiphase flow is common in oil wells. *What are the basics of multiphase flow?* The phases present in a multiphase flow are composed of:- 1. Solids, which are normally in the form of relatively small particles; the solid phase is incompressible and has non-deformable interfaces with the surrounding fluids. 2. Liquids, which are also relatively incompressible, but their interfaces with the other phases are deformable. 3. Gases, where the phase is compressible and deformable. *What are the problems with multiphase flow?* It is common in petroleum engineering, especially in production, transportation, and processing of oil and gas. However, multiphase flow can also cause various issues, such as pressure drop, flow instability, corrosion, erosion, and measurement errors. The inspection of MPFM should be done frequently to get accurate data and results. *Types of Flow Meters for Different Applications*..:- 1. Positive Displacement Flow Meters. 2.
