Israel Defends Itself—and May Save Western Civilization Powerful insights from Gerard Baker in The Wall Street Journal As we approach the one-year mark since the tragic events of October 7th, a ground war in Lebanon and a terrorist mass shooting in Jaffa Israel, Gerard Baker delivers a compelling reminder of how Israel’s resilience and tactical brilliance have reshaped the global security landscape. From dismantling terrorist networks to standing firm against the theocratic regime in Iran, Israel has become a beacon of courage and determination. In his must-read article, Baker emphasizes that Israel’s fight is not just about its own survival—it’s about defending the values we all hold dear: freedom, democracy, and the very fabric of Western civilization. How can we support Israel in this shared struggle for a more secure world? Dear MEPIN Readers, Israel and the Middle East are moving into a more dangerous phase of the seven-front war against Israel. There are also real opportunities to advance American and Israeli interests, but only if the Biden administration takes off its Western blinders and analyzes the region as it is, not as we want it to be. Please read my article to see how Israel can translate its tactical successes into diplomatic achievements. Eric https://lnkd.in/dCkYnBic

Do you Believe This: BIDEN LIES ABOUT THE U.S. NOT BEING AT WAR US President Joe Biden claims that he is the first US president in this century to report his country is not at war 'anywhere in the world. However, a quick perusal of the news shows otherwise. While the US may not have officially declared wars on any country, it is actively involved in several bloody conflicts across the globe. s that the United States Under the Biden administration, the US has intensified its bombing campaigns in Syria, Somalia, Yemen and several other places in the Global South. Despite the Pentagon's repeated claims that strikes have targeted 'terrorists, most of the victims have been civilians. The US is also bankrolling and arming the Israeli onslaught of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since the escalation in the Israeli occupation of Palestine began on 7 October. Plus, it has diplomatically shielded Israel from being held responsible by international al bodies, such as the United NationStates However, for Biden, all this apparently does not count. As long as profits continue to amass for US corporations and US geopolitical objectives are met, the US government is at peace. Unyielding Commitment: The IDF's Determined Stand Against Existential Threats - Faced with a genocidal enemy whose primary objective is the complete annihilation of Israel, the notion of compromise is not only futile but perilous. In this context, the decision to assassinate Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah represents a significant and transformative shift in Israel's military strategy. As articulated by Lee Smith in "Killing Nasrallah" (Tablet Magazine, September 28, 2024), this decisive action not only eliminated a long-standing and formidable adversary but also underscored Israel's resolute determination to prioritize its national security over the influence of its superpower ally. Netanyahu's stark realization that "heeding Washington’s advice on the conduct of war is like taking counsel from the angel of death" reflects a profound commitment to safeguarding Israel's interests, even in the face of external pressures and potential diplomatic fallout. This shift in strategy signifies a new era in which Israel is prepared to act decisively against those who threaten its existence, asserting its sovereignty and demonstrating that its security cannot be compromised by political considerations. This resolute stance sends a powerful message to both allies and adversaries: Israel will take whatever measures are necessary to defend itself against those who seek its destruction.... #IDF #Israel #Hezbollah #NationalSecurity #MiddleEast #MilitaryStrategy #StandWithIsrael #Victory #Deterrence #YonosonRosenblum

These paragraphs were taken from Allister Heath Editoriale on the Daily Telegraph : - I will not let go of law-bound national, democratic sovereignty. I will not let go of peoplehood, the alignment of a nation to its state, post-imperialism, capitalism, technology, and the enduring relevance of monotheistic religions. I will not let go of the right of a nation to defend itself. As Allister Heath powerfully writes in his Daily Telegraph editorial, Israel stands as the supreme embodiment of these principles. If we allow Israel to fall, we tear down the pillars that support the very foundation of the West. The West’s hesitation and moral confusion at this critical moment is shameful. We cannot let cowardice derail Israel’s fight against terrorism. Now, more than ever, we must stand with Israel in defense of democracy and the values that sustain our civilization. https://lnkd.in/dEYUzMyj

Well, here's my first piece, published by the Geostrata!
How has the October 7 terror attack, which resulted in the murder of over 1,200 civilians, transformed Israel's strategic culture and reshaped its defense policy, considering Moshe Dayan's assertion that Israel has no foreign policy, only a defense policy with international implications? Do hope that in the current tit-for-tat Israeli-Iranian geo-security military conflict and regional chaos and insecurity, things do not escalate into an all-out war in the Middle East, although it is well known that hybrid warfare between the two countries, their allies, and proxies have been going on for years. If diplomacy fails to tamp down the triggers contributing to the current volatile crisis, I am afraid that with another Israeli response and another Iranian retaliatory strike(s) as part of Tehran's "new equation", the expanding conflict will be hard to contain. The White House has warned Israel that the United States will not participate in any retaliatory strikes on Iran, senior administration officials said earlier today. While Iranian-backed militias have been targeting American forces in the region since October 7th, if not longer, Hezbollah -- according to the American Intelligence Community (IC) -- does have the capability and reach to harm the U.S. homeland should the conflict expand to other regions. The operation in Rafah and the ability of the Israel Defense Forces to vanquish Hamas and liberate hostages represents a dramatic inflection point for Israel, but also for western liberal democracies. For everything we have built and everything we believe in. If Israel - for whatever reason - is prevented from carrying out this mission any longer - or in the way that it wishes to - it sets what is in my opinion one of the most dangerous precedents in history. This isn't simply about securing those held captive in Gaza or preventing another October 7th. It is about decency vs indecency, good vs evil, and critically, the ability of a sovereign nation to signal to the world that terrorism - even with global support and sympathy - will not be tolerated. Further - and this is a thought for a different time - it is an opportunity for Israel and the Jewish world to remind others and themselves - that they will determine their own future. No one else will.

It is resistance not terrorism

"His name will outlive the very settler colony that he was fighting against. Yahya Sinwar’s life might have ended but his legacy has only just begun": Ashish Prashar, ex-advisor to UK's Middle East peace envoy. Oct 19, 2024. https://lnkd.in/e6tW4iXS ** Helena Cobban, co-author of Understanding Hamas and Why That Matters, says Israel’s killings of Haniyeh and Sinwar “are the sort of decapitation attempts that fading colonial powers use”. https://lnkd.in/gaqZX6Qb “Colonial powers try to delegitimize national liberation movements as ‘terrorists’, and in the name of ‘fighting terrorism’, they inflict horrible violence, like the French in Algeria or the French and US in Vietnam,” she said in a statement provided by the Washington, DC-based Institute for Public Accuracy. “But Palestinian resistance to occupation is wider than any set of individuals, and Hamas is not just in Gaza. It is certainly more popular among Palestinians throughout the whole of West Asia than the Palestinian Authority of Mahmoud Abbas.”

With so much talk of 'terrorism' constantly in the media being used to describe the resistance to Israel's genocide in Palestine, it's important to remember how language acts as a vessel for the exercise of power and ultimately works to politically, morally, and legally construct and condemn Palestinians as terrorists, especially those who refuse to be passive victims in the face of the Israeli war machine. The media and chattering classes who uncritically repeat the phrase 'terrorism' on the basis of being descriptive are actually doing a lot more as Christina Spens observes in her book 'The Portrayal and Punishment of Terrorists in Western Media': "While the term [terrorism] may be conceptualised in an academic setting to be more useful analytically, if its real-world usage remains mainly derisive, then its function as a condemning illocutionary act as well as a description also remains. Overall, then, the effect of using the word ‘terrorist’ to refer to a person has the effect of discrediting political legitimacy, dehumanising individuals involved ... and moral and legal condemnation. These are the functions of the word ‘terrorist’, and why it is therefore an action, as well as an objective description" (Spens, 2019, p.10).

?? Breaking News: Turkey Offers Support to Syria's New Leadership ???????? Turkey's Defence Minister, Yasar Guler, has announced readiness to provide military support to Syria's new Islamist-led government established by rebels who toppled Bashar al-Assad. Speaking to journalists, Guler emphasized: ?? "The new leadership should be given a chance. We're ready to support if they request it." The new administration, led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) rebel alliance, has pledged to: ? Protect the rights of all Syrians ? Uphold the rule of law ? Respect institutions Despite being rooted in Al-Qaeda's Syria branch and labeled a "terrorist organization" by many Western countries, HTS appears to be moderating its stance as it takes control of the transitional government. ?? What are your thoughts on this major geopolitical shift? Could this signal a new era for Syria-Turkey relations or deepen global tensions? Let’s discuss below ?? #Turkey #Syria #Geopolitics #MiddleEast
