I started the last of my four core courses in my PhD program tonight with Professor Marc-André Gagnon: PADM 6012 – Policy Process and Institutions. Despite the extra cold winter weather, I biked to school as usual—dedication and a warm coffee kept me going! How do policies emerge, change, and ultimately shape our society? The Policy Process and Institutions doctoral seminar explores various theoretical approaches to policy-making. Students will examine why some issues are addressed through policy-making while others are not, focusing on the complexities of policy development, design, and implementation. The seminar addresses the challenges of policy change, emphasizing the multiple actors involved and their influence on policy processes. Topics may include policy formation, agenda-setting, institutionalism, bureaucratic theories, theories of policy change, policy design and implementation, policy evaluation, advocacy and coalitions, and private policy-making. #PhDJourney #CoreCourses #PolicyStudies

New opportunities in public health: ASU’s new School of Technology for Public Health will launch its first degree programs in fall 2025. "The intention of both degrees is to basically help modernize the public health ecosystem and infrastructure," said Assistant Dean of Education Marc Adams, PhD, MPH, who also serves as program director for the PhD in population health in the College of Health Solutions. According to the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) framework, multidimensional, environmental factors affect children’s access to services that influence their development. However, there is little research on cross-system involvement as SDOH for educational achievement. This longitudinal study examines patterns of cross-system involvement among 6th grade students, racial-ethnic disproportionalities, and the impact of system involvement on educational achievement.
