The blue room of Living Lab is illuminated by the Silent Disco lamp, designed for Slalom by architect Giuseppe Albera (AMA - Albera Monti Architetti). Conceived as a decorative and functional piece of furniture, the lamp is a piece of furniture that seems to float in space. Characterized by two convex circular panels, sewn together and covered in sound-absorbing fabric. The resulting disk is pierced by cylinders of different lengths, but the same diameter, which house the LEDs that provide the internal lighting. Silent Disco can feature one, three or five cylinders. The colour version chosen for?ORGATEC Cologne?is blue avio with blue stitching. The three cylinders, of two different lengths, are painted in matte black, and the electrical cables, covered in woven fabric of the same blue, also serve a decorative function. What was the inspiration for my latest design 'Nest'? There are many geometric forms that occur in nature with the hexagon being just one of them.?I wanted to introduce a naturally occurring form within my new design, Nest. It is said that honeycombs are made in hexagons to effectively pack space with the least amount of material. Unlike other shapes like circles or squares, hexagons leave no empty space in between, allowing bees to have maximum cells in the smallest space. With is ability to tessellate in a space efficient way, our Nest design for Connection a Flokk brand is both compact and versatile allowing it to be used for seating, tables, shelving, acoustic screening and work wall.?It can be easily reconfigured to suit any workspace requirement. #MondayMoodboard talks about Broken Twill Sheer, designed by Jonathan Olivares A curtain textile - contemporary interpretation of a classic twill weave, which delicately captures a sense of light and movement. It offers an upscaled iteration of the design for his upholstery Broken Twill Weave, with an almost sun-bleached colour scale. Woven from Trevira CS yarns, a quarter of which are recycled, Broken Twill Sheer is exceptionally soft and folds to eye-catching effect. When the curtain drapes in the light, the pattern dissolves into the folds while emerging on the curved edges, creating three-dimensional volume. Midweek Design Spotlight ?? - Can you spot the real Prouvé? Product: Standard Chair by Jean Prouvé for Vitra. History: Jean Prouvé was a French industrial designer and engineer who believed in creating furniture that was both functional and durable. The Standard Chair, designed in 1934, is among his most iconic pieces. What sets this chair apart is its clever use of materials and structural design. Prouvé recognised that the back legs of a chair carry most of the weight, so he made them thicker and sturdier, while the front legs are more slender. This balance of form and function is evident throughout Prouvé's work. My Thoughts: This chair holds a special place in my heart. In my first year of university, I was tasked with creating a 1/5th scale model of the Standard Chair to test my model-making skills. It was a great mini project that gave me a deep appreciation for the chair’s design and construction. I admire the Standard Chair for its simple yet powerful design. The fact that it’s still being produced today highlights its timeless aesthetics and fundamental role in the history of furniture design.
