?? Honored to have had the opportunity to speak at the Caribbean Maritime University's Annual Career Fair earlier this month! ?? I had the pleasure of delving into a crucial topic close to my heart: "Understanding the Job Market Expectations for Engineers." In a dynamic 20-minute speech, I shared 7 Secrets, strategies, and practical tips that I have learned that will allow the fourth students to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of engineering careers. As engineers, we're not just problem-solvers; we're architects of innovation, stewards of progress, and drivers of change. It's paramount to comprehend the pulse of the job market, anticipate its shifts, and adapt proactively. From embracing Continuous learning to honing communications skills, I emphasized on the seven secrets of Technical Proficiency, Communication Skills, Problem-Solving skills, Adaptability and Trainability, Ethics and Professional conduct, Constant Development and Continual Learning, and the passion you bring to the table. Whether you're a seasoned professional or a budding talent, staying attuned to market demands is key to carving a fulfilling career path. The best time to find a job after college is when you start college. At CPP, we’re here to make that process a bit easier. Cherrie Peters, lead career coach at the Career Center on campus, has helped all kinds of students at various stages in their college careers. She advises students to be proactive and to utilize all the resources CPP has to offer: scholarships, micro-internships, alumni mentors, and the Career Center. The most important piece of advice she offers is to start early. “Career planning really is a process — a process of elimination, getting to know what they value and what is important to them. It’s about making themselves career ready.
