Recently, while going about my day, someone requested a cup of decaf tea. It piqued my curiosity, and I decided to dive deeper into what sets it apart from regular tea and herbal tea. While many may already know these differences, I realized it could be beneficial to share for those who may not. ?? Tea – Whether it's black, green, or white, traditional tea comes from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant and contains varying levels of caffeine. Black tea, for example, can have up to 70 mg of caffeine per cup, while green and white teas generally contain less. ? Decaf Tea – Contrary to what I assumed, decaf tea isn't completely caffeine-free! Decaffeination removes about 85-95% of the caffeine, leaving a small trace behind (less than 5 mg per cup). Still a great option for those cutting down on caffeine. ?? Herbal Tea – Interestingly, herbal teas like chamomile, peppermint, or rooibos aren't actually made from tea leaves at all. They are infusions of herbs, flowers, or spices and are naturally caffeine-free. Even though it might seem like a small detail, knowing these differences can enhance your tea-drinking experience and help you make informed choices for yourself or others.
