Due diligence in philanthropy isn’t just a procedural step; it’s a cornerstone of sustainable and ethical fundraising. It’s essential to rigorously vet donors and understand their motivations to align their interests with the core values and mission of the institution. This approach safeguards the organization’s integrity and ensures that the philanthropic relationships we build are transparent and mutually beneficial. As we navigate these complex dynamics, we must remain vigilant in our commitment to due diligence to uphold the trust placed in us by our community and stakeholders. The Future of Philanthropy is Young! Jeremiah Steen once told me that this is the best world to take risks, to test out new hypotheses for the world's potential, and give that first push to someone's career. How can we do any less than to fully empower young people in every asset of this field? For Elders in the Non-Profit Sector, how are you held accountable by those under 25 within the communities you serve? Are we on your boards? Have we reviewed and approved of the language you use to describe us in your grants? Most importantly, what are you doing to build the trust required to build a world that will honor your legacy?
