Why SEO on YouTube is pointless: After initially flopping, my video on Texas independence and #Texit has taken off on YouTube. This is for two reasons: 1) recent events in the Lone Star State have made the topic suddenly very current, and... 2) My video is doing very well for the search term "Textit." In incognito YouTube searches I've tested it's consistently coming first at the moment! ?? How did I do this? ?? I didn't. I followed none of the standard SEO advice for YouTube. Before this recent surge, I even had YouTube marketers send me pitches for their services with diagrams showing how this video gets a 0 on the SEO tools they use like vidIQ and TubeBuddy. And yet now this video is the top result for the main topic of the video!? ?? I don't actually try to grow my audience through search. I would rather people find my videos through YouTube recommendations, so I don't care about YouTube SEO anyway, but this incident does not convince me the whole idea is a load of hooey. And here's another reason to think that: YouTube actually tells YouTubers when they upload videos that tags and other SEO features aren't important. In my experience, the best way to grow on YouTube is to create videos people want to watch, and want to watch all the way through. I'm not dismissing #SEO in general for websites. That is very important for businesses that want to increase relevant traffic. But unless you're creating videos designed to be found by search, I'd avoid SEO for YouTube. https://lnkd.in/ePEGkrZh
