On Tuesday the government?announced a $35 million investment over four years in a #CivilSociety Partnerships Fund, a key commitment under the?International Development Policy?released a year ago. Writing for Lowy Institute, #AP4D’s Heather Wrathall and Jasmine Stephens say the Fund “presents a real opportunity to develop and fund initiatives that nurture civil society ecosystems and to provide flexible, core, multi-year funding to organisations across the region.” “This is a promising step towards addressing shrinking civil space and supporting the strengthening of civil society in our region: a step that can be built upon, which is both good development practice and in Australia’s national interest.” Read their piece at https://lnkd.in/gUtEn7nx. City Bridge Foundation’s Anchor Programme has reopened for a second round of funding. The programme aims to provide long-term (7–10 years), core funding to second-tier organisations supporting London’s frontline groups. To receive funding, organisations will need to demonstrate a strong ongoing commitment to, and track record of, equitable practice. Organisations must also demonstrate that they are addressing the marginalisation and discrimination experienced by those with intersecting identities. The Anchor Programme has been co-designed with civil society organisations and aims to fund organisations with a core focus on systems change, in order to make London a fairer city. In this second round of the Anchor Programme, we have a funding pot of nearly ￡15m and we estimate that between 13–15 organisations will receive funding. Pre-application webinars are available at 1–2pm on Tuesday, 30 April 2024 and at 5–6pm on Wednesday, 1 May 2024. Today the Green Party of England and Wales launched their manifesto! We welcome their commitment to increase international #aid to 1% of gross national income by 2033. ?? It is welcome too to see a commitment to significantly increase #climatefinance for the global south, including funds for loss and damage, which would be new and additional to existing aid commitments. This is the type of global leadership the UK should be employing to take responsibility for the #climatecrisis. ?? We also welcome the commitment to ensure domestic politics are inclusive and representative. This commitment must be applied across all levels of decision making, including foreign and development policy. ?? The leadership of #women and girls is key to international development and humanitarian efforts, including tackling the climate crisis. A #feminist approach to aid and climate action, focusing on locally-led development and long-term partnerships, particularly with women-led organisations, is the best way to deliver long-term, sustainable change. #GreenParty #Manifesto #UKElection #GeneralElection #FeministFuture

On October 15, 2024, LightCastle Partners and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) organized a stakeholder consultation session, supported by the Embassy of Switzerland. This event marked the third session for the baseline & landscaping study under the ‘Shafal – Remittance Management for Socio-Economic Stability of Migrant Families’ program, focusing on enhancing Digital Financial Literacy (DFL) for migrant workers and their families. The panel consisting of FSPs, development partners, EdTechs, communication agencies, and regulators weighed in the discussion. Interestingly, the abundance of DFL contents were well noted, however unification and strategic dissemination came as areas of improvement. ?? 25-31 May - International Week of Solidarity with the Peoples of Non-Self-Governing Territories This week, we recognize the vital importance of supporting Non-Self-Governing Territories (#NSGTs) in their journey toward self-governance. As outlined in Chapter XI of the UN Charter, administering powers bear a "sacred trust" to promote the well-being and self-determination of these territories' inhabitants. Since 1946, significant progress has been made in #decolonization, with many #territories achieving #independence. However, 17 territories still seek self-governance today. Let's reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding their #rights and #resources. This global initiative highlights the systemic funding disparities faced by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the Global South. Historically, bureaucratic barriers and biased practices have hindered direct funding from international donors to Southern CSOs, perpetuating inequalities and limiting local agency in development efforts. These practices often favor Northern organizations, overlooking the capacities and perspectives of Southern CSOs in addressing local challenges and driving sustainable development. #TooSouthernToBeFunded advocates for: 1. Removing barriers that restrict direct funding to Global South CSOs. 2. Revising tied aid policies to ensure equitable access to core support for Southern CSOs. 3.
