How American Farmers Grow and Harvest 63 Thousand Tons of Cucumbers https://lnkd.in/gpriaM7C The journey begins in the early spring when the frost has melted and the soil is ready for planting. Farmers meticulously prepare their fields by tilling the soil, ensuring it's well-drained and rich in nutrients. Once the soil is primed, it’s time to plant the cucumber seeds. Each seed is placed in the ground with precision to ensure optimal spacing. This is crucial because cucumbers need plenty of room to grow and thrive. Farmers often use specialized planting machines that help with this process, ensuring that each seed is positioned just right for maximum growth As the days grow warmer and the sun shines brighter, the cucumber seeds begin to sprout and grow. Cucumbers thrive in temperatures ranging from 70 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and they require abundant sunlight to develop properly. Farmers diligently monitor their crops during this critical growth phase. They ensure that the plants receive adequate water through efficient irrigation systems, especially during dry spells, to keep the soil consistently moist. Proper care during this stage is vital because it directly impacts the yield and quality of the cucumbers Maintaining a healthy crop is essential to achieving a successful harvest. Farmers face various challenges, including pests and weeds that can harm the cucumber plants. To combat these issues, they employ a variety of pest control methods, including the use of organic pesticides that are safer for the environment. Additionally, farmers regularly scout their fields for signs of pests and disease, allowing them to take proactive measures to protect their crops. Manual weeding is also an important part of this process, as it helps ensure that cucumbers have the best possible conditions to grow without competition for nutrients #cucumber #farm #farmer

Barley undergoes a straightforward harvesting process: Ripening Stage: Barley turns golden yellow, signaling readiness for harvest. Combining: Using a combine harvester, farmers cut and collect the ripe barley grains. Drying: If necessary, the harvested barley is dried to reduce moisture content. Storage: Dried barley grains are stored in bins or silos to preserve quality. These steps ensure a successful barley harvest, essential for various agricultural and commercial uses Some helpful info for newcomers in the barley trade #BarleyBrew #BobbinsBear

By almost every measure, farming is more financially precarious than ever. However, instead of sitting, waiting and wishing for regulation to solve this problem, the market can do the heavy lifting right now. Herd is full of producers who operate profitable, scalable models - doing so by producing the best flavored produce in harmony with the land and sea. It's likely that you've never heard of them, tasted their produce nor have any idea how they've cracked the code, but that's only because the market has let you down by not connecting you before. That's no longer the case. You can now buy your food not only with the knowledge of your farmer, but the method they've employed to produce it. Through nothing but your consumption, you can choose to support them directly or not. The power is yours. Paul and Helena are just the start with their Dexters. There are hundreds more. Have more hope. www.herdmarket.com #farming #farmers #impact #flavour #market #herd

Sentry Harvest Update Winter Oilseed Rape (OSR)?and?Winter Barley?harvests are now complete across Sentry farms.?It has all come in dry which is good and we're pleased to share some results: OSR: Yield is 1% above budget, and prices for rape have seen a slight comeback, mirroring the price of oil. Barley: Yield is 3% above budget, however, prices for winter barley remain stubbornly low due to a lack of demand. Wheat harvest has now commenced - we are experiencing a fairly slow start as we wait for the crop to ripen, with progress slightly ahead in the South East. John Barrett, Farms Director at Sentry commented "We hope farmers across the UK are having a positive harvest season. Despite the challenging weather during the year meaning yields are limited in places, the recent sunshine is helping ease us into harvest.?We are pleased to be reporting positive results for winter OSR and Barley, and are happy to share our performance results to help fellow farming businesses understand the current market and crop conditions." #Harvest2024 #FarmingLife #WheatHarvest #OSR #Barley #Agriculture #FarmersLife #SustainableFarming ?
