Today, on International Project Management Day, I’m celebrating the incredible impact we can create by collaborating with people from all over the world. As a Black woman in project management, I’m particularly proud to be part of a global community that values diversity and inclusion. Acknowledge. Embrace. Appreciate. Celebrate. These four words have been echoing in my mind lately, especially as I take some time out of my schedule to nominate some truly wonderful people for the Nursery Management Today NMT Awards. It's so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday work that we sometimes forget to give credit where it's due. But recognising the efforts of those around us is more than just a nice gesture - it's essential. When we take the time to acknowledge and celebrate others, we not only lift them up but also create a culture of positivity and encouragement. So, today, I'm making it a point to embrace this opportunity to show appreciation for the people who inspire and motivate me. Let's face it, we're all in this together, and it's important to celebrate the wins, big or small. After all, a rising tide lifts all boats, and by celebrating others, we're all lifted higher. ?? We didn't create the Powered By Diversity Ambassador program to make a quick buck and churn people out. It's a 10 week program that creates life long Ambassadors - and I am so proud to work with companies like Innovus who really get that. You don't do EDI training for yourself. You do it for people who need you to walk a mile in their shoes and to finally see the barriers they face day after day, where before you saw none. That is why this certification is so impactful. It really changes people. As one 2024 graduate recently said: "Coming into the sessions I felt that as an individual I understood a lot about EDI - and perhaps that I knew it all - and was doing everything right.?What I learnt was that I did not know it all, at all.?? I have always been mindful of people's feelings and tried really hard to create a happy working environment - but what I have learnt is that I have not always understood people and their needs and perhaps have not always created an inclusive workplace. This course has helped me to reflect on myself and understand more about my actions and the way they impact other people.?I have evaluated myself and now think about the way I recognise diversity in the workplace.?Moving forward I now feel I have more tools to create a more inclusive, safe environment where people can thrive. I have learnt that I need to listen, understand and respect people’s differences. We are all unique and change can only come from us.? ? It is great that “First Nations and female employees” are given the chances and opportunities but to have real Diversity and Inclusion – DEI; people with disabilities that have abilities also need to be included because people with disabilities that have abilities do exist but are rarely given the chances and opportunities when it comes to DEI. #inclusionforall #disabiliesawareness #diversityequityinclusion #diversityequityinclusionbelonging?#disabilityisnotinability?#diversityintheworkplace
