??New report! State-owned enterprises (#SOEs) aggregate revenues account for around 40% of GDP in Azerbaijan, playing a pivotal role in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and utilities. Azerbaijan Investment Holding (AIH) was established in 2020 with the mission of improving the governance and performance of the country’s most strategically important SOEs. This centralised oversight has led to corporate governance improvements, but further reforms are needed. Our new SOE Review assesses the corporate governance framework of AIH and its portfolio of companies against the OECD Guidelines on Corporate Governance of SOEs. Key recommendations for AIH and the Azerbaijani government include: 1?? Developing a comprehensive ownership policy 2?? Ensuring that boards have independent directors 3?? Separating ownership from policy and regulatory functions 4?? OECD, together with Azerbaijan Investment Holding (AIH) has done a great job on assessing corporate governance of State-owned enterprises (SOEs) based on OECD Guidelines on Corporate Governance of SOEs, which also included review of State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) along with other SOEs. This is a great milestone, especially considering that next monitoring of Azerbaijan Anti-corruption reforms within the Istanbul Anti-corruption Action Plan by OECD will happen in early 2025.

Attending the 2nd African Association of Accountants General (AAAG) conference 2024 in Arusha, Tanzania, was an enlightening and enriching experience. The discussions revolved around the critical role of Building Public Trust in Public Finance Management (PFM) Systems for Sustainable Growth. Evangelina Nailenge appointed as DBN Board Chair, Willy Mertens as Deputy ...as Finance and Public Enterprises Ministers appoints new Board of Directors The Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) has announced the appointment of its new Board of Directors, effective 1 January 2025. Appointed by the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Ipumbu Shiimi, in line with the Public Enterprise Governance Act No. 1 of 2019 (PEGA), the appointments underscore confidence in the Board’s leadership and its dedication to advancing DBN’s vision of driving sustainable economic development. Leading the new Board is Evangelina Nailenge as Chairperson, supported by Willy Mertens CA (SA) (NAM) as Deputy Chairperson. Patience Kangueehi-Kanalelo and Marsorry Ickua will serve as Board members, alongside Dr John Steytler, who also serves as an Ex Officio member in his capacity as DBN CEO.
