??♂? An update: For the past two weeks, I was participating in a global design sprint surrounding the UN Sustainable Development Goals. ?? I am happy to announce that my team, IPê, were the top 6 finalists among 100+ global teams working on the UN Sustainable Development Goals themes of Smart Cities and Climate Action for the #GlobalChallengeLab2024. ?? We presented GeoScape, an AI model empowering communities with predictive insights to build resilience against landslides. It uses data from multiple resources to accurately assess the landslide susceptibility of a plot of land, so that developers can build safer communities in Brazil and beyond. You can watch the pitch here to know more: https://lnkd.in/dTkS_b4B ?? I would like to give a special thanks my teammates Belinda Xu, Thomas (Cole) Biehle and Théo Bruno Frey Riffel. It was a pleasure and an amazing experience working with you all! And also, a shout out to our mentor and advisor Anette Lippert, for her guidance throughout this competition. ?? We are grateful to Imperial College London, Technical University of Munich and Tsinghua University for providing this opportunity and Futurize for organizing it! It was an amazing experience watching the ideas presented and providing us a platform to learn and grow! #hackathon #designsprint #productdesign #business #technology #globalchallengelab #startups #future #UN #sustainability

?? The ideal company size is 5 - anything bigger and you fail ?? Having worked in multiple startups including now FOUND, in a midsized (but global) firm and a Fortune 500 company, I’ve always been intrigued by what the ideal company size is. ??? Arthur Mensch (CEO of Mistral AI, who just announced another mega-raise of 600m EUR) argues that a team of 5 is much faster than a team of 50 - unless you create 10 teams of 5 and these teams are sufficiently uncoupled. ?? Our advisory board member Roland Philippsen - with his experience from startups (who turned into unicorns) to giants like Google - goes as far to say that the Dunbar number of 150 is a natural limit to the efficient size of an organization. Beyond 150, the necessary coordination efforts move the focus inwards (i.e. away from the user or customer) and generate significant overhead. ?? Large companies like Haier have deconstructed their organization to account for this - breaking down the company into hundreds of nimble, startup-like teams with limited cash and a high degree of agency. ? What do you think - what’s the ideal size of a company and can you break down large organizations into smaller and more effective teams? https://lnkd.in/eTcHrwNg

Building in Public not only identifies flaws, but also rectifies your strengths. I was recently accepted into the athena.vc founders program for Chrio, a startup I built to drive viewer engagement with predictive AI in the realm of Cricket. In the first week of this Founder's Program, I have been looking into studying 10+ companies backed by Sam Altman, Peter Thiel, and Bill Gates to reflect on what I should or should not do relative to Chrio. I've gained some amazing insights and would love any feedback. Pick an important problem: https://lnkd.in/dwwBjr-r This sort of in depth analysis is something I would recommend to every founder no matter what they make. It is easy to forget that there is no roof here and many of the biggest companies started at nothing. If you want to get to know more about Chrio stay tuned, as we have many new things to share. Last week, we organized our last event in the Caelestinus 2024 batch – the Final DEMO Day where all 15 graduating teams presented themselves to the public and investors with their products as well as the progress they have made during our 4-month incubation period. We are very happy that we had the privilege to work with these teams as this cohort was exceptionally strong and we believe in their bright future. All things must come to an end and so our incubation does, too. Not only will we be watching these startups closely, but we are sure to keep working with these alumni in the future as well. If you missed the Final DEMO Day, have a look at it here ? https://lnkd.in/eHr33JqD More about the startup portfolio ? www.caelestinus.tech During the session, we also awarded 4 teams with these prizes: - biggest number of Pilots – HEURISTIK - biggest business progress – Praxium AI - community voting – NXgenPort - experts' choice – ROOK Congratulations! ?? What comes after innovation? At VetForum 2024, our CEO Ryan Gallagher shared the founding story of Scribenote and what comes after initial product market fit. As an ex-VC now working in a start-up, I couldn't help but draw parallels between Ryan's take and Paul Graham's 2009 essay on "What start-ups are really like" and Benn Stancil's recent essay on "How a startup feels." Both explore the continuous effort and "lots of little things" required to execute on a long term vision. Ryan's perspective resonated deeply because it confirms something we probably already know - that there is so much more to be done after initial PMF. So, what comes after innovation? There is no after. There is only the relentless pursuit of a better future. This is a must-watch for anyone navigating the start-up journey: https://lnkd.in/gampnaQU #Veterinarian #AI #Innovation #Startup
