#Norway is a supreme example of how media and activists cherry pick data to suit their #fossilfuel and #climate narrative, and ignore whole picture, particularly, the glaring elephant in the room. Exhibit 1: National Geographic writes, "97 per cent of Norway’s energy already comes from hydro-power – an enviable accomplishment in itself." https://lnkd.in/gRQrDFhM While WWF says, "Hydropower is destroying Europe's rivers and biodiversity. It is also one of the main reasons the EU's water protection law is breached. https://lnkd.in/gjuv9mJ8 Exhibit 2: Meanwhile, International Energy Agency (IEA) famously in 2021 gave the message "no more oil and gas investments," but recently the: "IEA report repeated the message, though it found room till the end of the decade for yearly investments of US$18 billion in new oil fields. These are fields that have already been approved..." https://lnkd.in/g5HazWGK Norway must have heard it on the grapevine and because in June 2023 they snapped up the global limit for themselves, approving $18B, not for maintenance, mind you, but for new oil and gas. https://lnkd.in/gDm52mY2 But that's ok, because elsewhere, IEA says, "As a reputable and reliable producer, Norway has played a stabilising role in the world’s oil and gas supply, particularly in meeting European demand." https://lnkd.in/gmstkZEy What an enviable position they are in! Like I mentioned with #coal powered #EVs yesterday, #Norway #oilandgas actually gave them enough finance to branch out into other things. https://lnkd.in/gSSp37nm Norway's Oil and #naturalgas funds every part of society, including #renewables. [see below article] So, why is it that people are up in arms when #Mozambique and #Africa want to use their #oilandgas, but Norway can have its cake and eat it too? Like China, powering their economy with coal, does #Norway know something we don't about using oil and gas to power theirs? How about we start with ABUNDANCE. Without a huge amount of Production, there will be little money. In the Harvard Business Review, US workers produce "more, which means higher real incomes." Moreover, "A supply of energy that makes North America energy independent.?Natural gas #fracking in particular has provided U.S. businesses with plentiful and relatively inexpensive energy." https://lnkd.in/gdDXSydK Change our thinking, we can do better. Let's make better energy decisions. RBAC, Inc. rbac.com https://lnkd.in/gJm9u55b
Cyrus Brooks You say: #Norway?is a supreme example of how media and activists cherry pick data to suit their?#fossilfuel?and?#climate?narrative, and ignore whole picture, particularly, the glaring elephant in the room." Yes, there is a "glaring elephant in the room" which you fail to mention, namely that based on UN data there is now more than 8 billion people in the world. Between 1 and 2 billion of these people are daily trying to increase their energy consumption and with increasing their energy consumption most of these people also increase their CO2e emissions. Asian people seeking to use more energy are now saying: Europe and North America you have now used hydrocarbons to build up your economies for more than 150 years. Now it is our turn! For your information, each time European heads of states visit Norway they all urge the Norwegian government to increase its oil and gas production. This even applies to the current German Chancellor!
Cyrus Brooks - What a great summary of Norway's Sovereign Fund. There is a lot of tidbits in there I did not know. Well done.
Great analysis here Cyrus Brooks
