Cyber Collective, in partnership with Alliance for Securing Democracy at German Marshall Fund of the United States kicked off #CyberSecurityAwarenessMonth this week by convening creators, information manipulation experts, and election officials for a critical discussion. Trust plays a critical role in how we process the information we see, particularly important information around elections. Influencers and creators are community builders. They grow and nurture communities around trust. In their research, information manipulation experts from Alliance for Securing Democracy report on how foreign actors target creators to promote information that influences voters and therefore, the elections. We had information manipulation experts and PA election officials share their insights and experiences. We heard from the influencers what they’ve seen and what their concerns are. Through deep conversation, centered around our shared sense of responsibility to educate and protect our communities, we asked ourselves … what does it mean to influence with integrity? How can we help other creators and influencers communicate these issues to their followers, to ensure we are all able to vote confidently in the upcoming election? We’re turning our takeaways into a co-created resource to support all influencers, across the US and the internet can understand the impact of these issues and how to navigate them.
