Like a lot of people, I've been spending time over the past few days reflecting on the protests, riots, and violence we've seen (and are seeing) across the country. For me, this is still a work in progress. However, over the weekend I posted a couple of threads on Twitter - this post distils those initial thoughts. First, though, my thanks to all the Council Staff involved in planning for all eventualities and in co-ordination with the Police, Community Organisations, Mosques, and others - it's largely unseen but essential work. I visited Castle Park on Saturday to observe the situation first hand. When I was there, things still seemed broadly peaceful, and the counter-protest was making its voice heard. In the end, Bristol escaped the looting, arson, and vandalism that has been visited upon other cities - but things could have been much worse, especially for those currently being housed within the hotel on Redcliff Hill. I summed up my view on Saturday night thusly: "Hate, division, and violence have no place in Bristol's politics or civic life. Whatever happens tonight, I am confident that the true spirit of Bristol: outward looking, inclusive, and creative will win through." Come Sunday morning, and another cycle round town, this seemed right: aside from piles of horse do there was little evidence of last night's events, following various clear up operations. There are, though, clearly things that will need to be learned from the response and I anticipate that I'll be getting briefings on this, as Chair of the Economy and Skill Committee which includes the Council's emergency response operations within is remit. So, where have we ended up? 1. Far right agitators from elsewhere are not welcome in Bristol - their brand of "politics" which seeks to misdirect people's...anger and unhappiness against those who are less fortunate, rather than the systems and policies that entrench inequalities. We also need to be realistic, though, that there are people with these views within our city too. 2. Neither migrants nor any other marginalised group are to blame for deprivation in "white working class communities" - a phrase which ...in and of itself needs some unpacking - something for further thought and consideration. 3. Those of us who stand against the far right need to find better ways of countering the rhetoric of their leaders *and those who fuel their fires* - this remains, I fear, the biggest challenge. 4. The likes of Robinson and co thrive on the violence and disruption but it is Farage, Tice, and co who really fuel the flames of tension: laundering racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia and whatever other prejudice they can leverage, to shift the focus onto the poorest and most marginalised, and away from those with entrenched privilege: themselves. They do so with plausible deniability, a nod and a wink, a "oh we're just asking questions" approach. This needs to be called out for what it is at every opportunity.

Happy Wednesday!!?? IT'S NATIONAL COFFEE? WITH A COP??♂? DAY! Author | C. Knighten The very first Coffee with a Cop Day was held on October 7, 2016. However, the idea was first proposed in 2011 by the Hawthorne Police Department in California, as a way to build better relationships with their community. The first event was a casual gathering where police and community members could build relationships and discuss community issues over coffee ad their local McDonalds. During the event, Officers hear from the community about their security challenges and needs. The community liaises with their security officers, not just as public officers but also as allies in protecting and caring for the people of their town. If crime is to be abated, both the community and police officers must work together. Today, we celebrate Coffee with a Cop in all 50 states and it has become one of the most successful community-oriented policing programs in the United States. Breaking through the barriers of communication between officers and citizens is one of the major focuses for every community. Surprisingly, this celebration has expanded outside our borders to include: Canada, Europe, Australia, Africa and Latin America! GREAT WAYS TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL COFFEE WITH A COP DAY! ?Missed going to White Bison Coffee this morning? Take coffee and biscuits to your local station! ?Show your Gratitude! Bake a cake or pick one up...either way, you can drop it off at your local station. ?Send a 'thank-you' note! Gratitude is always a great way to let others know you care and appreciate them! Sadly, and just like in all professions....there are great cops and some who aren't so great. However, it is very important that we realize the great ones, far outweigh those who are not so great.....so supportive of your local police departments. You never know when you will need them next! #dynamicpressurewashing #roofcleaning #softwashing #residential #commercial #siding #concrete #driveways #sidewalks #patios #decks #fences #tractortrailers #semitrucks #fleetservice #madison #huntsville #decatur #hamptoncove #jonesvalley

Seven years of inquiry following the tragic Grenfell fire, which claimed 72 lives, raises serious concerns about the pace of justice and accountability. How can it take seven years to reach a final decision on such a devastating event? While some partial reports have been released and certain legislative changes have been made, the lengthy duration of this process is unacceptable. The families affected by this tragedy deserve timely answers and justice. The prolonged inquiry not only prolongs their suffering but also highlights systemic failures in addressing safety and regulatory issues. Seven years is far too long to wait for clarity and meaningful reforms in the wake of such a significant loss of life. #Grenfell #JusticeForGrenfell #BuildingSafety #Accountability #PublicInquiry #SafetyFirst #LegislativeChange #CommunitySupport #NeverForget #SystemicChange https://lnkd.in/enziHCji

National Stalking Awareness Week 2??0??2??4?? Stalking is a crime which can cause major disruption to someone’s life, involving them living in constant fear and distress and, sadly, sometimes even leading to physical illness. Cyberstalking - Using technology is an increasingly common method of stalking. Someone is stalking you if they: * Repeatedly follow or spy on you. * Constantly call you, at home or at work. * Repeatedly send you unwanted emails, letters, or gifts. * Vandalise or damage your property or repeatedly leave signs to let you know they’ve been around. * Threaten you or someone you care about. * Ask family members or friends for information about you. * Repeatedly, and inexplicably, show up wherever you are. Spot the 4 signs of stalking: ?? Fixated ?? Obsessive ?? Unwanted ?? Repeated
With National Stalking Awareness Week just around the corner from 22nd to 26th April, BDAP are supporting the Suzy Lamplugh Trust's Campaign to Join Forces Against Stalking. Please see full details of how you can join to pledge your support in raising vital awareness.

The National Association for the Advancement of White People (NAAWP) The AMERICAN FAKE NEWS MAINSTREAM MEDIA wants U.S. to believe that the NAACP is GOOD and the NAAWP is BAD! The TRUTH of the matter is that both groups do a great job of providing CHECKS and BALANCES for every AMERICAN CITIZEN! AMERICA has always been a two-party system of GOVERNMENT, hence the DEMOCATS and the REPUBLICIANS. ... and that's exactly how the NAACP and the NAAWP operates! Mark Anthony Traina - NAAWP - President - 2024 ([email protected]) (504) 231-3056 Two separate groups have carried the name NAAWP. One existed from 1954–1955, the other from 1979 to the present. The formation of most white supremacist groups can be linked to specific events. The various waves of the Democrat led KKK could be tied to the emancipation of the enslaved, the release of ‘Birth of a Nation,’ and in response to desegregation. The emergence of MAGA was in response to the election of President Barack Obama. The first version of the DEMOCRAT controlled NAAWP was formed after the Brown v. Board of Education decision that required the integration of schools. “Like clockwork, whenever racial progress occurs, it’s followed — in short order — by racial retrenchment. Reconstruction, the Civil Rights Movement, and the election of Barack Obama, are the most prominent examples.” — Christopher Sebastian Parker The founder of the NAAWP was a Democrat Party Member Bryant Bowles, who was also its first president. Bowles was a former Marine and a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. After the May 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision, he raised $6,000 to form the NAAWP to stop school desegregation. He organized rallies in several states, including his home state of Delaware. At one rally, he said: My daughter will never attend a school with Negro’s as long as there is breath in my body, and gunpowder will burn.” — Bryant Bowles. Also, in 1954, Bowles was charged with kicking and beating a Black postal worker in Washington, DC. The charges against him were dropped. He led a pro-segregation boycott of Milford High School in Milford, DE. This protest led to arrests and cross-burnings, resulting in Southern Delaware schools remaining segregated for several years. Bowles was found not guilty of charges related to the protests. It was later discovered that a jury member was also in the Democrat controlled NAAWP. After his arrest at the school, the Delaware Attorney general revoked the NAAWP charter, effectively shutting down the organization. The Democrats including KKK Exalted Cyclops Senator Robert Byrd and Senator Joe Biden fought desegregation tooth and nail for decades. It’s unrelated to this story that Bowles was convicted of the killing of his brother-in-law in 1958 and was imprisoned until 1973, when he was paroled. In 1976, he was arrested for trafficking drugs in Florida. I mention these things mainly because I’m petty but partially to show the caliber of the NAAWP leadership.

Democrat Policies enable these outcomes.
Chicago firefighters are criticizing the city for a shortage of ambulances and paramedics. They are organizing protests during the NASCAR street race and the DNC. As we've seen many times before, police times are not getting better either, and now, if you are having a heart attack, you might be waiting too. As crime increases, the need for emergency services increases. In April, the March on the DNC coalition hosted a "working conference" where representatives from 78 activist organizations and they plan to protest "with or without permits." The Chicago police department's resources are already running thin, and the fire department is sounding the alarm. Recently, the number of 10-1 calls seems higher than ever due to "silly" kids and fights with the "migrants" around shelters. (10-1 means an officer needs urgent help right away.) The DNC will be like a disorganized three-ring circus if all of these groups show up.

I can feel the profound emotional impact this experience has had on you. Witnessing such violence, especially after spending time engaging with individuals in prison, must have been deeply distressing and challenging to process. It's understandable that you're feeling heartbroken and compelled to take action to protect yourself and your family. The juxtaposition of spending time with those incarcerated and then witnessing violence in your own community highlights the complex and multifaceted nature of social issues such as crime and inequality. It's a stark reminder of the interconnectedness of various societal factors and the realities that many individuals and communities face on a daily basis. Your decision to sell up and move out of Croydon reflects a deeply personal response to the situation. It's a decision driven by a desire to ensure the safety and well-being of your children, which is undoubtedly a top priority for any parent. It's a difficult choice to make, especially when it involves leaving behind a place you love and have likely called home for some time. At the same time, your decision underscores the broader systemic challenges that communities like Croydon may be grappling with, including issues related to crime, poverty, and social inequality. While moving away may provide a sense of physical safety, it also raises questions about the underlying issues that contribute to such violence and what can be done to address them effectively. It's important to acknowledge the range of emotions you may be experiencing right now – from sadness and fear to frustration and perhaps even anger. These feelings are valid responses to a situation that is deeply unsettling and distressing. Ultimately, your decision to prioritise your family's safety is understandable, and I hope that wherever you choose to go, you find the peace and security you seek. #MTICBIAI #MyTraumaIsChronicButIAmIconic #Heartbreak #CommunityViolence #FamilySafety #MovingDecisions #ProtectingChildren #SocialChallenges #SupportNetwork #EmotionalResilience #CommunityEngagement #SafetyFirst #ParentingJourney #CopingStrategies #NavigatingAdversity #BritishCommunity #StayingConnected

I'm heartbroken! On a day I spent talking to people in prison serving long sentences, I returned to Croydon to witness a stabbing with one young man fighting for his life and another in handcuffs. I love Croydon but now I have decided that I ??% will sell up and move out of Croydon before my children become teenagers.
