This five-year project aims to use AI and optimization to advance exoskeleton assistance for stroke survivors. In collaboration with Emory University Rehabilitation Hospital, this project will focus on personalizing exoskeletons to enhance mobility and quality of life for those affected by stroke. Senior research scientist Kinsey Herrin highlighted the importance of enabling stroke survivors to safely navigate outdoor environments, a significant step towards regaining independence. This interdisciplinary effort brings together engineers, clinical scientists, and prosthetics experts to develop cutting-edge assistive technology. Our team has developed an innovative Optical Automatic Contour Tracing (O-ACT) method that revolutionizes electron cutout generation in radiation therapy. By leveraging optical imaging and automation, we've created a more precise and efficient approach to treating skin lesions and superficial tumors. What makes O-ACT special? It provides real-time verification, uses existing equipment, and could democratize access to precise radiation therapy globally. This advancement represents a significant step forward in making accurate radiation treatment more accessible worldwide. Yesterday marked the conclusion of one of the best projects in my academic journey, and I am incredibly proud of it: developing a mathematical model to analyze brain tumor growth. Working alongside a brilliant team, we combined image segmentation and partial differential equations to address a critical challenge in biomedical engineering: brain tumors. ? Highlights of Our Research: - Used the U-Net architecture to segment tumors from MRI scans, enabling precise calculation of tumor volume. - Modeled tumor growth dynamics by solving the Fisher-Kolmogorov equation, integrating unique patient-specific parameters such as growth rate and diffusion coefficient. Why It Matters: This interdisciplinary work not only enhances our understanding of brain tumor growth but also lays the groundwork for improved diagnostic tools. The potential to integrate physics-informed neural networks and extend this research to 3D simulations excites me for future endeavors! A special thanks to our mentor.
