Coming up this week! The event we've been working on for several months now - Campout 2024 It's on a permaculture farm just outside Abergavenny and it's a community gathering. Everyone is bringing their gifts to the campfire for four days of community, connection, compassion, co-creation and celebration. The future for me now is all about much smaller community-based events. We all build an event together. No one who attends is paid, not ‘performers’, event managers or crew. Nearly everyone there is a contributor in some sense. If a small surplus is made, it is invested back into the community. This model operates in a similar way to few friends hiring a large house or space for a week. We each bring ourselves and our gifts to the party on a voluntary basis - we all give to the event but we also each take a lot from the it - connection, conversation, compassion, inspiration, the joys of co-creating something that has the potential to change lives. The ticket money each person puts in is not a cop out clause, so that they can expect things to be done for them, it’s an investment in supporting and growing the amazing potential of a community gathering. It’s exactly how our Campout event has been evolving these past few years. Check our programme for this year, we’re about to do another one next week on a permaculture farm near Abergavenny. https://lnkd.in/eDgxJppt

I want to run for #Whatcom County council in a few years. Here is what I'm thinking for my platform so far, accepting all feedback: * Re-name the city of Ferndale, Jam. It used to be a logjam and Jam was its initial name. *Return Mt. Baker's name to Kulshan. Mr. Baker literally just pointed at the peak of Kulshan from a boat and said "hey, check that out," and Cpt. George Vancouver said "i think its a mountain, we'll name it after you Mr. Baker." *Preserve farmland while increasing water quality. *More re-forestation. * Salmon! Just...SALMON!!!! *Support the creation of more hobby farms and then more county festivals to showcase all the hobby farms. *Rural Internet! To support more virtual jobs. *Create a county gimmick as a tourist attraction, like the largest wood dutch shoe in the world. *Find a sibling city in Eastern Washington and another State, then promote each other and coordinate on events. Find another place with the vibe that Whatcom needs to grow more into. *Host a regional #pickleball tournament, get those tourist dollars flowing in. *Community Solar. *The whole goal is to create a vibe that attracts more people to live here and contribute to that vision. The vibe should be relaxed, farmy (food), glampy, family, sustainable, fun, active, inclusive, historical, healthy and affordable.
