Badminton is one of my favorite sports. You have to take decisions - a drop or hit or smash or toss in a fraction of a second. However these decisions made intuitively is actually based on facts or data where I watch videos of top players and analyze their game. Overall decision making needs to be based on data and intuition. Read my Forbes blog (link in comments) on bringing both intuition and data for better decision making. #data #analytics #decisions

HOW DATA IS USED IN TEAM SELECTION IN CRICKET:-- In the world of cricket, data analytics has revolutionized how teams are selected and strategies are devised. Teams now rely heavily on data to make informed decisions about player selection, performance optimization, and match strategies. 1. Player performance metrics: -B Teams analyze individual player statistics, including batting averages, strike rates, bowling economy, and fielding efficiency. This data helps selectors identify players who excel individually and fit well into the team dynamic. 2. Match Conditions Analysis: Data analytics also considers external factors such as pitch conditions, weather forecasts, and opposition strengths. By analyzing historical data on how players perform under specific conditions, selectors can make strategic choices that maximize the team's chances of success. 3. Injury Management: Advanced analytics assist in monitoring player fitness and injury history, ensuring that only the most prepared athletes are selected for crucial matches. This proactive approach helps maintain a strong squad throughout the season. As cricket continues to evolve, the integration of data science will play an increasingly vital role in shaping successful teams. Embracing this analytical mindset not only enhances performance but also engages fans who appreciate the depth of strategy involved in the game.Let's celebrate this blend of tradition and innovation in cricket! #CricketAnalytics #TeamSelection #DataDriven #Cricket #SportsScience #InnovationInSports

As Gary James says there are some valuable leadership and teamworking lessons in this short video But it got me thinking about why it often seems so difficult to create sustained high performance teams in a more traditional business environment I’ve been retired for over two years but judging by the number of posts I’ve seen recently (mostly about implementing ERP systems) the same old problems are still knocking around, so I don’t feel quite so irrelevant after all! My experience is/was that tensions across different teams in the same organisation are often the cause. On the surface everyone is focussed on the same high level objectives - customer service, cost reduction, outwitting the competition, or whatever it may be, but inter-departmental issues get in the way My ‘go-to’ example is the trade off between simplifying the implementation of an IT system and customising it to meet operational requirements. Boy, that used to create tension! Marketing vs. Operations, Finance vs. Procurement. There are plenty of other examples A perfectly aligned wider team would reach compromises because that’s what’s best for the organisation Typically there’s a fight in which one ‘side’ wins and the other loses The fights aren’t always fair or rationale. Those who shout the loudest or have the intellectual upper hand often prevail Even in a cross functional team that’s been assembled for a specific project, loyalties to one’s colleague and boss remain Organisations should recognise these tensions in advance and plan to minimise them. It’s a prime candidate for the project’s risk register Identify that priorities will differ between teams as a risk early on in the project. Try to quantify them one by one Get these risks in front of leaders and persuade them that common sense won’t prevail or that their people are mature enough for it not to happen. It will. Get the leaders to talk to each other early on Map out the key decisions that will need to be taken in advance, identify the different desires and quantify the long term costs of different options. Cost being in terms of harmony, competitive advantage as well as just financial Being more rational about the outcome will encourage collaboration and collective support for the decision Create a new risk each time an unanticipated difference of opinion arises It won’t make things easy but it will facilitate the debates in a less time pressured environment Thoughts anyone? #makinganimpact #makingadifference #goingtheextramile #goingaboveandbeyond #teamwork #highprrformingteams #collaboration

It was good to hear stories from their remarkable sporting careers, as they share what it takes to excel as an individual versus playing with a team, along with some valuable leadership lessons.
