How does your institution define commuter students? ?? Understanding the definition of commuter students is crucial for providing tailored support. Doing precisely this enables us to offer the necessary resources to combat feelings of isolation and ensure their success. My article in Wonkhe today highlights how the sector is at cross purposes when discussing commuter students. No sector definition means we are unlikely to all be talking about the same group of people. Whilst a few HEIs do have their own definition for commuters, many do not. Staff are also often surprised to find their institution lack a definition for this student group, particularly where institutions 'feel' they have a lot of commuters. I urge anyone wanting to work with commuter students to first google on their HEI webpage 'commuter student' or whatever terminology you think your HEI would use. Is there a definition there (or any webpage for that matter...)? Is it what you thought it would be? #commuterstudents #wideningparticipation

Not sure what I think about this. Wrong tool wrong job? ?It’s true that the majority view in a survey is not the best way of capturing individual wellbeing, but if that’s what you’re trying to do, an anonymised survey is the wrong tool. Also very uncomfortable with the confidentiality situation given the range of much better tools to capture this kind of data.?

Great to see conclusions in writing that I've believed for most of my adult life and teaching career. I hope we see an appropriate shift in instruction and in educational institutions themselves following the release of this long term study.
