Yet, the lack of representation in healthcare is a significant barrier to achieving equitable outcomes. In a recent op-ed, Steve Beard, Chairman and CEO of Adtalem Global Education, and Dr. Ngozi Ezike, president and CEO of Sinai Chicago, explore the need for a diverse healthcare workforce and shed light on how partnerships like Adtalem and Sinai Chicago are making strides in advancing culturally competent care and addressing health disparities. I find the term "Allied Healthcare Professionals" deeply problematic. I do not believe there is a place for it in modern and inclusive healthcare. It represents a regressive & outdated school of thought about health with an intention to other and belittle the contributions made to healthcare by other professions. It aims to create categories of prestige and of lesser beings within the professions. To whom and why are these professions called "allied"? What is the intention here, but to 'other' and keep up with the facade of exclusive groupings within the health professions? No wonder society is getting sicker, how can we come up with real solutions when we refuse to appreciate each other as equals at the solutions-finding table?
