The Chronicle recently reported a significant increase in giving this year, stating that major gift donations are up 6%! BUT, if we look closer, we see that this is largely due to one massive donation to a single non-profit. When you take away that outlier, the reality is that major giving to non-profits has actually decreased by 14% this year. This article serves as a reminder for us to stay informed and not just take things at face value. It's crucial for us as non-profit professionals to dig deeper into our donor data and understand the trends affecting our sector. Whether giving is up or down, we need to be proactive in analyzing the reasons behind these changes.
