It was an absolute honor to participate in the I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) change of command with these great Americans. Today, Lt. Gen. Bradford Gering relinquished his command to Lt. Gen Michael Cederholm. Well done to both leaders and their families. The U.S. Marine Corps has led the Joint Force in its aggressive modernization to meet the challenges of tomorrow—while remaining ready at a moment’s notice to respond to the crisis of today. I MEF is the leading edge of that modernization—where theory meets real-world application. While modernization and new technologies give us the competitive edge during combat, the ultimate reason for I MEF's lethality is its #Marines—an advantage that gives adversaries pause. https://lnkd.in/ePwmH-8e

Marine Corps allies are taking notice and emulating the innovative littoral regiment strategies developed by the United States Marine Corps. Lt. Gen. James Bierman revealed at the Navy League's Sea-Air-Space conference that the U.S. Marines are witnessing their Pacific allies adopting their groundbreaking littoral regiment tactics, specifically designed to counter China's presence in the region. The three major challenges identified by Lt. Gen. Bierman are time, space, and access. However, the U.S. Marines are actively working to maintain and amplify China's doubt and uncertainty. To address these challenges, the Corps has been focusing on enhancing its units within the U.S. Navy fleet and the first island chain, including locations like Okinawa, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Notably, partner and allied nations within this chain are joining forces with the Marines to improve their capabilities in detecting, targeting, and striking enemy naval vessels. The key to these joint operations lies in the Marine littoral regiment, which has been developed specifically for littoral combat in shallow waters near coastlines and archipelagos. Excitingly, Marine Corps allies in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines are either adopting elements of the littoral combat concept or actively working towards it. Each nation is tailoring their approach based on their specific needs and priorities. The Marines' Pacific allies are fully committed to these efforts, recognizing the importance of standing strong and united in their own backyards. Their collective focus on external security and shared aims will undoubtedly strengthen the region's defense against any potential threats. #SAS2024 #MilitaryNews #PacificRegion #MarineCorpsTimes #LittoralRegimentMoves #MilitaryInnovation
