Are you familiar with the "Guts Pose"? In Japan, April 11th is commemorated as "Guts Pose Day". This originates from the boxing athlete Guts Ishimatsu, who achieved a dramatic victory in the WBC World Lightweight Title Match on April 11, 1974. The pose he took at that moment gave birth to the term "Guts Pose", which led to the establishment of this commemorative day. In Japan, there is an organization called the Japan Anniversary Association, which certifies such commemorative days. What kind of commemorative day would you like to be recognized for? #Japan #Anniversary

As for the IBA, my stance on the corruption and questionable practices of the association are well known and I will not change my stance, something needed to change. The move to computerized scoring in Olympic competition from 1992-2008 in response to what happened to Roy Jones in the 1988 games was something that caused more problems than it solved and did not in any way eliminate the issue of corruption. The last two tournaments, including 2024, which I unfortunately had to sit out from covering were steps in the right direction, but more can be done and decades of corruption are not easily solved in one or two tournaments. Of all the fights I observed in the 2024 games, I would feel safe in saying at least half of them ended in 3-2 split decisions and that is because unlike the pro ranks, amateur fighters still have an emphasis on merely trying to score points as opposed to trying to score knockdowns or stoppages. This is something that I feel was largely the result of the previous computerized scoring system where scores were determined by single punches and three out of five judges had to hit a button within a second of a punch landing in favor of the fighter throwing the punch in order for it to count officially in the scoring. Although we are now four tournaments removed from that scoring system of which I was never a fan of, there just seems to be that hold over at least mentally where fighters seem more focused on scoring points rather than sitting on their punches to at minimum try and score knockdowns, which would in theory solve the conundrum of the majority of fights ending in 3-2 decisions under the open scoring format, which has remained since 1992, which I do favor as a means of transparency. As for World Boxing as an association that might end up replacing the IBA, more and more countries are joining them so I feel Boxing will continue in the Olympics in 2028 and beyond. I just hope that we see more transparency, in an effort to keep what has been established in the last two tournaments and personally, it would be nice if competitions outside of the Olympics worldwide were streamed so that it would enable folks like yours truly the opportunity to cover them. 2/2 #Olympics #Boxing

Very rarely do I share something from the head of one of Boxing’s various sanctioning organizations because I have no vested interests and want to be independent and objective, which is the only way one should approach covering sports because otherwise, it leaves one open to potential biases and conflicts of interests. Having said that, I do agree with some of what is said here. The Olympic Boxing tournament needs to go back to being an Amateur tournament and professional fighters should not be eligible to participate in the tournament simply due to the fact that the Olympics has historically been the final stop for many of the world’s top amateurs before turning professional. If the argument for professional involvement in the Boxing tournament is ratings and money driven, perhaps the Olympics should be expanded beyond a two week window to maybe a month where it would allow time as far as Boxing is concerned where professional bouts could be staged outside of the amateur tournament as part of the Olympic festivities in the host city. If the argument is to use professional fighters to draw interest and in a way use them as a goodwill initiative, that would be a better approach than compromising the tournament by allowing pros to box against amateurs. -1/2 #Olympics #Boxing

Rolling with Jorge-Jitsu – 13: : Jorge, BJJ Black Belt and Brazilian Champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, shows some half guard passes. The goal of every half guard pass is to extract your leg and pass either to the two sides of your opponent or straight up the middle to the mount. A crucial step on the path to that goal is to pin the head, shoulders and hips. You must also remain stable enough to begin extracting your own leg. Therefore, your hips are an important part of that process. The half guard can be a strong position for your opponent. Therefore, if you choose to pass, it is best to get yourself in a position where you are definitely stronger and they are weaker. This gives you choices. ?? When you are first learning BJJ, it is important that you focus on control and getting into the correct positions, before trying for the submissions. If you focus on the first two, the submissions will open themselves up over time. But, especially on the ground, you cannot lose your control and positioning. In this video, Jorge is doing all three. Win win win. ?? See you at training, where we will help you with your wresting and groundwork, and you can have a whole lot of fun. ?? Did you know !!! Historically, there have been only a few documented instances of athletes being disqualified from the Olympics for being overweight during weigh-ins, primarily in weight-classed sports such as wrestling and judo. For instance, at the 2024 Paris Olympics, five athletes, including Vinesh Phogat of India and Messaoud Redouane Dris of Algeria, were disqualified for exceeding their weight limits . Such disqualifications are rare and typically attract significant attention due to their impact on athletes' chances for medals.?? Numbers matters Beijing 2008 and London 2012: The Beijing 2008 Olympics saw 81 athletes disqualified, while the London 2012 Olympics set a record with 139 athletes disqualified. This high number was due to extensive re-testing of samples, which caught 65 athletes post-Games (Wikipedia) (Inside the Games). Stripped Medals: Overall, 127 medals have been stripped from athletes for various violations, not limited to doping but also for conduct that violated the spirit of the Games (Sports Shorts). Top Countries: Russia has the highest number of disqualified athletes, with 46 from the London 2012 Olympics alone. Other countries with significant disqualifications include Ukraine (17), Belarus (15), and Turkey (14) (Inside the Games). #supportIndianathletes

Women’s Sports and Nonsense Olympic Boxing The Olympics are over, but the controversy is still ongoing. In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) disqualified Lin Yu-ting and Imane Khelif from the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships (New Delhi 2023).?Neither athlete appealed the IBA’s decision. Basically, the tests found that both fighters had XY chromosomes and high testosterone. High T is when the testosterone levels are outside the female range. XY chromosomes are only found in males. The controversy comes from the fact that even though they were identified as female at the time of birth should they still be considered females even though they have XY DSD with male advantage? Past Events and IOC (International Olympic Committee) The IBA has been out of the Olympic movement since 2019. This followed years of concerns with their financial transparency, the administration of competition, and its governance. The IOC bases its qualification on the gender shown on the passport of the competitors. As such, both these boxers were admitted as female even though they had been disqualified in the New Delhi games of 2023. IOC New Guidelines In June, the IOC issued a guideline and I quote: “… gender diverse XY athletes should not be considered to have(a) ?male advantage in the arena simply because they’re male, and that male T levels shouldn’t be disqualifying—despite their?scientifically well-understood role?as the primary driver of the performance gap between the best males and the best females.”? Not sure what it all means, except that it allows male athletes to participate in women’s sports. So, the IOC is now only using the sex shown on the passport even though many federations and the IOC itself had used T as an indicator for sex. By the way, neither ovaries nor adrenal glands produce T in the male range, only testes do. As far as we know, it’s the best test available to date to differentiate between males and females. But the IOC will no longer consider it as it is leaning towards the left. Olympics 2028 Boxing has not YET been officially included in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, California. This stems from the IOC’s decision to stop recognizing the discredited IBA. This decision is on hold. But there is still time as the program will be finalized by the 1st quarter of 2025. Knowing the leaning of California Governor, I have a feeling he will try to exert as much pressure to have male athletes compete against women. As does the world turn.
