Imagine the urban warehouse of the future--and make it vertical. Building a distribution center just two miles from a city center has obvious appeal for an owner, but such a centralized location makes the available building footprint much smaller than the typical warehouse requires. DCI Engineers, The Walsh Group - Walsh Construction & Archer Western, Ware Malcomb, and Lyndon Steel Company LLC used Nucor Corporation’s high-strength Aeos A913 Grade 65 steel to build a two-story warehouse (a first in the Midwest!) that maximizes usable square footage. Another plus besides the extra space? High-strength steel reduced the overall weight, resulting in a more sustainable and cost-effective structure. Vaughan Constructions is proud to?once again play a part in?Mapletree’s?logistics development. Located in?Queensland, we’re quickly hitting construction milestones for Stage 3 of the project. This current phase includes building 2 expansive 23,400m2?warehouses, each designed with dual tenancies with dedicated office spaces. But the focus of this build isn’t just on expansion – it’s also on innovation and sustainability. It’s targeting a 5 Star Green Star rating, ensuring every aspect reflects a commitment to environmental responsibility. Here are a couple of recent delivery highlights: ?? Structural steel for Warehouse 6 is complete, with roofing and cladding well underway. ?? Warehouse 5’s steel framework is on track for early September completion. But the standout achievement? Installing full-height, 60-tonne tilt panels in Warehouse 5. These 12.2m high, 10.9m wide panels were cast onsite and expertly lifted into place using a 220T crawler crane. The idea of modular has been around for a long time. In colonial times, folks would have buildings disassembled in England and reassembled on this side of the pond. And, a hundred years ago, Sears Roebuck and Co. even got into the modular game, shipping pre-constructed homes via railroad. However, nowadays, “New technology, like better construction cranes, have allowed modular buildings to be built bigger, taller, and in many designs.
