I had the honor of spending time with BGen Anthony Henderson, USMC, at this month’s meeting of Navy League of the United States, Northern Virginia Counsel.?He is the Deputy Director of Joint Strategic Planning on the Joint Staff (J5). BGen Henderson’s comments to the audience regarding the challenges of joint planning in today’s real-world environment and of the President’s (just released) FY25 Defense Budget were insightful. His perspectives underscored the importance of improving industrial resilience given the limitations now affecting asset sustainment, production and labor shortages. What’s plaguing the defense industrial base is also confronting CXOs in all market verticals who are witnessing limitations in production capabilities and capacities. Business strategies should consider limitations for the foreseeable future while CXOs seek improvements to the domestic industrial base.

National defense is an issue that can't be ignored. For far to long we, as a nation, sacrificed our national manufacturing capacity for the dollar. This shortsighted strategy has placed us in a vulnerable position that can no longer be outsourced. If you are a manufacturer, I highly encourage you to attend this virtual event. The #TPP #TalentPipelineProgram is on a mission to energize and engage the American economy by creating and sustaining a maritime and defense industrial base-focused talent pipeline that enables EMPLOYERS to re-capitalize their workforce through recruiting, hiring, training, and retaining skilled workforce members with critical trade skills for 1-year as productive and engaged new employees. #webuildsubmarines #nottoday #itsamoventnotamoment #MIB #DIB TMG, Inc, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), BlueForge Alliance

If you really want to hear about some tactical edge use cases and not some box strapped to a plane Brandon Gulla and the RGS team will be able to talk “actuals” not “theory”…Lot’s of buzz words around tactical edge, but until you containerrize your app and deploy it in the constrained compute environment on a tactical platform it really is not tactical edge….just another hardened compute device… #microservices #k3s #containers #tacticaledge #cloudcomputing

USS Long Beach and all the other Nuclear powered surface warships and merchant vessels underscore the immense pressure on Naval Architects (and other engineers as well) to adopt the latest tech either to showcase their potential or as a marketing gimmick without paying heed to whether it really is worth it. Most of the time tech solves a problem that never existed. The only advantage that a nuclear power surface ship has is that she does not have to come alongside to refuel. But she does have to come in for food (water can be produced) Then you have to have an addl team of nuclear engineers with a higher pay (marine enggrs are supposedly not competent to handle this additional role and nuclear enggrs have no clue about vessel operations) In the event of a enemy hit on the vessel (cruisers are not as well guarded as a carrier is)we will have a naval Chernobyl on our hands There's pressure on Naval Architects (and ship owners) now to go all electric. But does it solve any real problem? With the Wartsilas, MTUs and MANs (and also gas turbines) out there, conventional propulsion is still very much relevant for higher tonnage ships (All Electric outboards do have their own space for small craft as also low power e-bikes)

Fire in the hole! Nice short clip here. Amazing work goes into planning bridge demolitions in general but damaged structures like this one are even more challenging! Glad this was shared so we can all see. #construction #deconstruction #demolition
Another great milestone achieved by our amazing team at the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse. Thanks to the Baltimore District, North Atlantic Division, and our partners with the Navy Supervisor of Salvage overseeing this operation and ensuring its safe execution. #Nomissiontogreat #BridgingtheAtlantic
