Starting Blozum has been a whirlwind journey, full of lessons, challenges, and aha moments. One lesson stands out among the rest, a mantra often heard but just as often misunderstood: Do things that don’t scale.
Yes, it's the most overused advice in the startup world. Yet, it’s also the most crucial.
In the early days, it's tempting to dream big and think about scaling from the get-go. But what we found at Blozum is that the real magic happens when you roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty.
1. Understanding the Customer: Before you can automate or delegate, you need to deeply understand your customers. This means personal interactions, manual onboarding, and tailored support. It’s through these unscalable actions that you truly grasp the pain points and desires of your audience.
2. Hands-On Experience: Engaging directly with our users gave us invaluable insights. We didn’t just read feedback; we lived it. This hands-on approach ensured that when it was time to delegate, we knew exactly what needed to be done and how to do it right.
3. Building the Foundation: These unscalable actions helped us build a solid foundation. Every manual task, every direct conversation, added a brick to our sturdy base. Now, as we grow and bring in more automation, we do so with confidence, knowing our processes are rooted in real-world understanding.
So, to all fellow founders and innovators out there: embrace the grind. Do the things that don’t scale. It might seem counterintuitive, but it’s this very effort that will set you up for scalable success in the future.
Here’s to the hustle, the hands-on learning, and building something truly impactful!
