Reproductive Justice is a topic we must address with care in the CHI and CSSW communities. We* are organizing a speculative design jam workshop focused "Caring for Reproductive Justice"-- taking place in-person and online during #CSCW2024. There is still time to Submit a 1-3 page provocation or position paper by August 20 that discusses a particular challenge, experience, or gap they have encountered in their work on reproductive justice. This one-day hybrid workshop will facilitate a design jam speculating on?design and anti-design?approaches that can support reproductive justice. The jam will mainly focus on unique challenges and tensions arising from adversity.?Adversity?includes tangible and perceived hostilities spanning the national, local, and private spheres. Examples could include legal barriers, social stigmatization, precarious or violent domestic environments, and more. Workshop website: https://lnkd.in/gUaQ5WzV *Great team shaping the workshop led by Benedetta Lusi, Michaela Krawczyk, Adrian Petterson, Kamala Payyapilly Thiruvenkatanathan, Emily Tseng, PhD, Lara Reime, Madeline Balaam, and yours truly.

I live for days when policy changing conversations take place, improving sections of law that can change history. Today I reflect on “My body, whose choice?” As we navigate the complex landscape of reproductive rights, let's remember that abortion is a deeply personal and context-dependent decision. Rather than perpetuating stigma or imposing our beliefs on others, we should strive to create a society where individuals can make informed choices about their bodies, health, and futures. By centering empathy, autonomy, and access, we can work towards a world where every person has the opportunity to thrive. Whose choice should it be? The person whose body, life, and well-being are at the center of the decision. #ReproductiveJustice #Autonomy #Empathy"

When discussing human rights and reproductive justice, it's about empowering individuals with options. As Loretta J Ross said, “A person can’t fight for their human rights if they don’t know they have them. They got to know they have options beyond the deadly and dangerous ones.” Reproductive justice means being free to make informed choices about our bodies without discrimination, coercion, or violence. It's a fundamental aspect of our right to life, health, privacy, and education.? Woodhull continues the fight for reproductive justice, a fundamental human right. When we have reproductive justice, we have reproductive freedom. #reproductivefreedom #reproductiverights #reproductivejustice #equalrights #humanrights #sexualfreedom #freedomtochoose #freeexpression

The election of Donald Trump as the next US president presents a grave threat to Americans' fundamental rights to bodily autonomy and to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care access across the globe. Our President, Kelly Blanchard, released the following statement: "We join our partners in naming the very real threat that a second Trump Administration poses to all of us, and especially to the communities that are already overpoliced and surveilled, who are also the folks who face the highest barriers to reproductive health care access due to systemic inequities and oppression in our health care system and society. We share the very real fear about what this administration will mean for our democracy, our rights, and our freedom." Ibis stands firm in our commitment to rigorous research and principled partnerships that advance sexual and reproductive autonomy, choices, and health worldwide. No matter what the future holds, we will continue to conduct research that is responsive to the needs of our partners, uplifts their expertise, and increases access to care. Happy Black Maternal Health week! In the spirit of understanding the historical context of reproductive justice and who has the right to mother, I’m resharing this fantastic read. Dorothy Roberts penned ‘Killing the Black Body’ in 1997 and it is still relevant. My own birthing journey became quite scary. Had I not advocated for mine and my child’s safety with my former OB/GYN, I’m quite certain the outcome would not have been desirable. As we continue to advance equity for all birthing people, let us leverage our collective impact to continue to drive policies that bolster Black birthing people’s rights and improve birthing outcomes. #healthequity #birthequity #reproductivejustice

Data impacts everything, and this is why season 2 of EC's #TechnicallyOptimisticPod with host Raffi Krikorian is dedicated to asking the most pressing questions of our data-driven era. How and why is our data being collected? How is it affecting our daily lives, our decision-making, our political systems? What does it mean for things like reproductive rights and criminal justice? Maybe most importantly, what does the future of data look like, and what can we do to help shape and protect it? Head here to get a first listen at what Technically Optimistic will include this season—and subscribe to stay in the loop! https://lnkd.in/egTYHsXm

Candi Miller and Amber Thurman should still be here with us today, but Georgia’s harsh anti-abortion laws led to their untimely deaths. Their stories are heartbreaking, but tragically, they are not unique. These laws create a dangerous environment where people are forced to carry pregnancies that jeopardize their health and well-being, and it is only a matter of time before more lives are lost. The fight against reproductive oppression is growing, and at the center of it are conservative policymakers, including Donald Trump and Supreme Court justices, who are determined to enact a national abortion ban. They will stop at nothing to strip away the reproductive freedoms of millions of people, pushing their harmful agenda at the expense of women's health, safety, and autonomy. This fight is not just about politics—it’s about human lives, and it's time for all of us, especially men, to speak up. These policies don’t just affect women; they harm our families, our communities, and people we may not even know but whom we love. I am proud to serve on the Board of Directors of SPARK Reproductive Justice NOW!, an organization that is on the frontlines of pushing back against these unjust policies in Georgia. SPARK centers joy and the vision of a future where reproductive justice is accessible to all. I strongly encourage you to look into their work, support their efforts, and get involved in the fight for reproductive justice. #ReproJustice #AbortionAccess #AbortionIsHealthcare #FightForOurLives #SparkReproductiveJustice #HarrisWalz #StopTheBan #HealthcareIsAHumanRight

I care deeply about: - basic moral standards - the rule of law - women's health, safety and reproductive rights. I also love the natural world that we inhabit and fear for its future and that of our children. Naturally then, the US presidential election result is deeply disappointing to me. I have a growing number of clients who are struggling with 'the state of the world' which is understandable in a world that seems increasingly chaotic and divisive. If this is you then here are some ideas that may help (and have certainly helped me today): ?? Turn off the news, which is often charged with fear-driven and divisive language. ??Chat to friends, loved ones and family members who recharge your energy and restore your faith in humanity. ??Move your body ??Go for a walk in nature and/or connect with nature any way you can ??Do a random act of kindness for someone ??Double down on what's important to you and the positive changes you want to see in the world. ??Remember we are all fellow strugglers and even when our political views diverge, we still all hold the common thread of humanity Yes there's so much we cannot control. Unplug from the noise and bring yourself back to what you can change. #USelection #selfcare #coaching #QCHtherapy
