It is imperative that #cybersecurity leaders get better at communicating and delivering value to the business bottom-line! We cannot keep asking for budget increases while we are viewed as an overhead function! Executives invest in revenue generating departments and streamline non-revenue supporting groups to reduce costs! If we want our budgets to remain intact or grow, we must articulate and deliver value in business terms. Otherwise, expect to be asked to do more with less! Matthew Rosenquist makes good points. However, there are many cliffs. Insurance is a cliff you pay the insurance and then the CISO's are paying the ransom... typically at a loss greater than the insurance coverage - so there in essence are not doing their job well - or never got the opportunity to fix it! The issue with cybersecurity it is not an over night fix. CISOs are put in the role to stop the bleeding but the patchwork of their predecessors is what we have to work from... to fix this in most cases is a redesign to provide better value. But are you giving the CISO and opportunity to do there job well - this is funding the defense and the contingencies. #BusinessContinuity needs to be implemented to keep the business continuously operating this ensures the revenue streams keep flowing. Cybersecurity has just as much to do with keeping business flowing as stopping the bleeding and the bleeding is paying the ransom, supply-chain interruptions, loss of goodwill, and market cap reductions due to data loss. It is challenging times... we do not get a chance to hit the rest button and all you see is blue skies! We are constantly in a #cyberwar and trying to mend the fence of #DLP at the same time. Today the facts are for every $1 spent on #cybersecurity we lose $50. These are great odds that need to overcome. Sure there are some quick fixes, but still these 9-20% budget increases are required to keep up with the advances of the attacks and now the #cybercriminals will begin using #AI. We are now moving at the speed of light... This requires a team of experts, a team with an eye on the ball at all times and moving in-concert to defend, protect, predict and prevent... and have #BCP, #SOC, #NOC, #escalationresolution, a team of #SME and #CISOs that work together and increase your chances 50:1 and normalize the attack!
