As someone from Doncaster, just like Jeremy Clarkson, I have to say I absolutely love Clarkson’s Farm :-) not only is it entertaining, but it's also doing a fantastic job of highlighting the challenges and opportunities within the farming industry. I know quite a few farmers and it appears the industry as a whole really appreciates what Jeremy is doing. One great outcome from the show is that the new "Clarkson’s Clause" has now come into effect. Inspired by Jeremy’s own battles with West Oxfordshire District Council, this new planning law will enable farmers to convert disused agricultural buildings into homes and shops without needing planning permission. The changes mean that the amount of floorspace that can be converted to ‘flexible commercial use’ will double from 500 square metres to 1,000 square metres. Additionally, the number of homes that can be created from these conversions will increase from five to ten. This law provides farmers across England with greater freedom to diversify and grow their businesses. Furthermore, land can now be converted into training centres and outdoor sporting facilities without the lengthy and costly planning applications.
