11 things I’ve learned in 54 years Celebrating my 54th birthday over the weekend, I took some time to reflect. We’re all evolving and growing, making mistakes and learning some lessons along the way. Here are a few insights I picked up during my 54 laps around the sun: 1. At times, the best way to move ahead is to let go. 2. Being grounded and present is the most luxurious and exotic place on earth. 3. Confidence comes from doing hard things and learning how to bounce back from setbacks, not from hollow praise or participation trophies. 4. A freeing way to walk through the world: give generously, don’t keep score. 5. Fast > perfect. 6. Self-reliant people who take agency and responsibility for their outcomes are far happier and more successful than those who blame others and play the victim. 7. Legends do the work. 8. A core responsibility is to regularly put ourselves out of business with an upgraded version. 9. Kindness is a force multiplier. Anger, fear, and greed are pollutants. 10. Laughter is miracle-grow for the soul. 11. The purpose of life is a life with a purpose. Mine is to elevate others, love unconditionally, and help unlock human creativity to improve humanity. Happy Father's Day. Being a good father is the most important, if not so appreciated or celebrated job in the world. A lifetime undertaken too with no vacations, sick leaves, any real or tangible benefits which is why many without that capacity to give without receiving anything in return or, the consideration of ROI and so on are unable or, lack the capacity to be. However your achievement came about, it is most likely indeed that, it would not have been possible without a decent man with integrity who must have taught you or, served as the role model for your choice of the path that you've taken. It is precisely the same for me though I am not as accomplished as you are. To have not added to the trouble of humanity by being a scammer, a liar, a bitter, hurtful, envious, shameless parasite or, any other way of being a further burden on humanity is thanks to my father who introduced me to the finer things in life such as books, novels and comics such as Tintin and those other ones before all of the craziness that prevails now, geography, anthropology, archaeology, and so much more that just makes me unable to stoop to any ignoble levels. We can see and know for a fact, how children without the influence of good and sound fathers end up. The statistics are extant for those who are honest enough with themselves and so, are willing to see the facts. Nothing beats the feeling of having a great dad. Mine was in Denmark for a while. He gave me that aspect of me which deeply appreciates, is connected with and values the original Western Culture of the Renaissance masters such as Michelangelo, Botticelli, Raphael, the Greek and Roman cultures of the great philosophers, Socrates, Plato, the mathematicians, Archimedes, Pythagoras and so on which so many seem to hate and want to destroy now, preferring depravity, degeneracy, perversion and, devolution as opposed to evolution where nudity and sex and, the physical are celebrated instead of the intellectual which is how you got to where you are. Now, athletes and sports people, reality TV actors and actresses and, singers who entertained merchants, royalty and, the intellectuals in the Middle Ages are "celebrated" in an upside down world of distorted value system. We need more men to be men and not cowards. We all know that, if you don't stand for something, then you will fall for anything. The Truth is, the Truth regardless of anything.
