FEEDBACK! It's a challenge - at least for me - that when I give a virtual talk, I don't always get much feedback about how it "landed." My CTA is to ask for an application of the learning with 1 of 2 actions (primarily on LinkedIn) in the next 24 hours. And I did that last evening when I finished the talk for the Public Health Career Club at PH SPOT on "Not Networking - Engaging Instead." You can imagine my surprise - and ELATION - when I finished a quick bite of a late supper less than 2 hours later to find a message from Linda Setiawan with this wonderful feedback: "I appreciate your advice to approach networking with a mindset of "engaging" in a way that adds to the conversation." AND - she had already written a post!! And she is now working on her banner and her "About" section to increase her visibility. #PomPomsToYou, Linda, for moving forward with the actions so quickly - and for moving your intentions into RESULTS!
May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month! I joined my colleagues at the Therapeutics Development Network, Seattle Children's last Sunday to walk for a cure. Great initiative by Rochelle delos Santos leading Team Ramsey's Racers! Seattle Great Strides raised ~$160,000 to advance medical and scientific progress. I’m thrilled to work with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation towards our mission: a cure for every person with CF!

In a world where challenges loom large, the power of collective resilience shines brighter than ever. The recent Dolphins Challenge Cancer event is a prime example of this strength, rallying 6,702 individuals to raise an impressive $12 million. This huge effort beat last year's amount and reached the target of $75 million for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center earlier than expected! It's incredible to witness such a phenomenal success. It is a testament to the unstoppable spirit of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium leadership and each participant who turned adversity into victory together. Their collective resilience has powered a movement that's met one of the most ambitious donation goals in sports history, showing the world what's possible when we unite for a common cause. "One team. One fight." The resilience, unity, and strength displayed are truly inspiring. Stephen D. Nimer, M.D., put it well when he said, "Thanks to the unwavering support from the South Florida community and our amazing partnership with the Miami Dolphins, we've been able to achieve so much at Sylvester, pushing the boundaries of cancer research." When you focus your efforts on a goal, you're bound to succeed. Well done, Miami Dolphins! This event has made a real impact in the fight to save lives. #Community #Resilience #Teamwork #MiamiDolphins #CancerResearch

Dear LinkedIn Network, In less than a month, on April 7th, I will be running in the Paris Marathon. Last year, in the first week of April, the challenging economic climate compelled my business partner and I to close our company. This decision came as cornerstone investors were hit hard by the collapse of well-known institutions, and the ensuing liquidity crunch made it impossible to continue growing our business, despite our successes, dedication, and investments. Despite the passion and growth I experienced on this entrepreneurial journey, recovering from its closure has been an incredibly difficult challenge. It was a period that tested my resilience and spirit. During this time, sports became my sanctuary. Running nearly every day, engaging in workouts, and setting new goals helped me navigate through a period of depression. Therefore, when the opportunity arose to support a cause through my participation in the Paris Marathon 2024, choosing CAMI Sport & Cancer was a natural decision, especially after losing a cherished friend to cancer a few years ago. ?? Why CAMI Sport & Cancer? CAMI Sport & Cancer is an exceptional non-profit organization dedicated to integrating physical activity into cancer treatment. Their work focuses on enhancing recovery and improving the quality of life for patients. Promoting physical activity as an integral part of oncology care. We know that physical and mental health requires physical activity, it improves the quality of life of patients, limits the adverse effects of treatments and reduces their chances of recurrence. This cause obviously holds a special place in my heart. ?? Join Me in This Journey Help me raise funds for this association, for these patients, by making a donation! Your support can transform every kilometer I run into a beacon of hope for those fighting cancer. Every donation, no matter the size, strengthens CAMI's mission and inspires my journey toward a future where sport and healing are intertwined. ?? Be a Part of the Change To contribute, please visit my fundraising page. Together, we can create a meaningful impact! https://lnkd.in/e3TxkkKF ?? Thank You Your belief in this cause and your support mean everything to me. This is my second and last message asking for a donation, next message will hopefully be about me reaching my objective (fingers crossed)! With gratitude, Marc

Take a minute to read this.
Last night, In honor of the winning streak that the NC State Men’s basketball team is on through the ACC and NCAA Tournaments, My wife Jess and I watched the ESPN 30:30 documentary on NC State’s 1983 Basketball Team and their improbable run to an NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. The title of the documentary is “Survive And Advance”, which is a nod to the now famous motto for that 1983 team during their winning streak. One of the main focus areas of the documentary is Jim Valvano, the legendary Wolfpack Coach and Founder of The V foundation for Cancer Research. Coach Valvano lost his battle with Cancer in 1993 but he left behind words of encouragement and an enthusiastic spirit that will be remembered forever. Jimmy V was an excellent public speaker. Two of my favorite quotes from him are “In every single day, in every walk of life, ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things.” And, “You have to have an enthusiasm for life. You have to have a dream, a goal. And you have to be willing to work for it.” If you have ten minutes today, I encourage you to watch his famous speech from the 1993 ESPY Awards, which he gave just one month before his death.?(https://lnkd.in/e3BSwbh3) To this date, The V Foundation has raised over $353 Million Dollars for Cancer Research. In January of this year, my wife, Jess, was diagnosed with brain cancer. We have been working with the team at Duke Health since her diagnosis and have been the recipients of fantastic care and treatment while at Duke. The Duke Brain Tumor Center has a similar foundation, focused specifically on funding Brain Tumor research at Duke University. That Foundation is called ‘Angels Among Us’. Without the innovative research funded by donations to Angels Among Us, Jess’ treatments for her brain tumor would look a lot different. These donations, no matter how big or small, contribute to research that is saving the lives of thousands of people every year. The 2024 NC State Men’s Basketball team has their own motto - Why Not Us? In every single day, in every walk of life, ordinary people accomplish the extraordinary by beating cancer - so why not us? Please donate to our fight if you are able to: https://lnkd.in/eAPpjZea

RUNNING FOR A CAUSE: THE GREAT NORTH RUN In a heartbeat, life can take an unexpected turn, hurling us into uncharted territories of challenges and resilience. For me, that turn came with my son's diagnosis of neuroblastoma, a battle that has defined our lives in ways we never imagined. Amidst the uncertainty and the countless hospital visits, one thing became crystal clear – our determination to fight alongside him, every step of the way. As I have been watching my son bravely face the relentless trials of neuroblastoma, I have felt a stirring within me—a call to action, a need to channel our collective strength into something tangible. And so, with a heart filled with hope and determination, I have made the decision to embark on a journey unlike any other: I will be participating in The Great North Run on 8th September on behalf of Young Lives vs Cancer, not just as a personal challenge, but as a beacon of support for my son's epic battle against cancer. For someone who has never run a sponsored race before, the prospect may seem daunting. But this journey isn't just about crossing the finish line—it's about making a difference. It's about rallying together to raise funds that will fuel research, support families, and bring hope to those fighting neuroblastoma. It's about turning our collective strength into a force for good, shining light on the path towards a brighter, cancer-free future for all. https://lnkd.in/eERNesmj
