What do your ministry shares do? ?? Your ministry shares provide structure and support for congregants passionate about accessibility – like Greg Yoder, a Thrive regional disability advocate. Currently half of the churches in Yoder’s classis have a disability advocate, and his goal is for every congregation in the classis to have someone in this role. Yoder reflects: “Being the body of Christ means thinking creatively to ensure that everyone feels welcome to participate in the community life of the church.” How do you see ministry shares at work in your ministry?

As Black disabled people, sometimes the disability part of our identity is minimized. Of course, at some point there needs to be a conversation with the rest of our larger community about the fact that our value is the same as everyone else’s. In the meantime, we have each other. - Tinu Abayomi Paul What are your needs and the needs of your people? How can you strengthen trust and transparency within your mutual aid network? In celebrating the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Governor Laura Kelly has proclaimed October 2024 as Kansas Disability Employment Awareness Month. Through two programs, Supports for Training for Employing People Successfully (STEPS) and Work Opportunities for Reward Kansans (WORK), the Kansas Department of Health and Environment is dedicated to fostering employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Both programs are part of KDHE's Working Healthy program and allow Kansas residents who have a permanent disability to work and keep their health care. Good jobs change lives, and all workers—including disabled workers—deserve the opportunity to prepare for, obtain and succeed in them. Reflecting this, "Access to Good Jobs for All" is this year's National Disability Employment Awareness Month (#NDEAM) theme. Learn more: dol.gov/NDEAM.
