Scraplanta Creative Reuse, an Atlanta-based creative reuse center, is opening its second location inside CreateATL. This expansion brings Scraplanta’s mission of promoting sustainability and creative reuse directly to the audience of creatives in Southwest Atlanta. Their new scrap outlet in Adair Park (we call it a Scraplet) will continue to provide affordable art supplies and craft materials through their retail operation. More importantly, they’ll be managing ten workshops per month for creatives of all ages as well as hosting donation days in partnership with the resilience team at CreateATL. Scraplanta is known for its diverse inventory, ranging from knitting needles and beads to fabric and partially used paint tubes. This eclectic mix supports artists, educators, and hobbyists by offering supplies at significantly reduced prices. Their location in Tucker, Georgia also hosts community workshops and encourages creative expression through its donation and resale model, making art accessible to all (Scraplanta) (Rough Draft Atlanta). For more information about Scraplanta and its initiatives, you can visit their website. Support this vital organization as they work to springboard into a new location after serving the Tucker community for several years.”

?????????????? ?????????????????????????? ?????????? “?????????? ??????” ???? ???? ???? ??????????????? ???????????????? Is It Leather? was featured recently in a Leather International article that highlighted the project’s successful educational outreach campaign aimed at promoting the benefits of real leather to consumers around the globe. Since its inception, the Is It Leather? campaign has reached over 1 Billion consumers around the globe with a mix of entertaining truths and steadfast facts to counter the mightily funded, radical, anti-beef machine that is looking to take real leather off the menu for generations to come. If you’re a believer in the luxury, durability and sustainability of real leather then consider joining us in the fight. Our budgets pale in comparison to our adversaries, but we have truth on our side! Imagine pitching a board not on a big ad campaign, but on changing the entire ownership structure of a company. ?? It's not a super hot take to say that prioritizing shareholder returns at all costs makes it difficult to make long term decisions in the best interests of people and planet. We know the outcome of growth at all costs - it ain’t good. But to actually do something about it feels rare and brave to me. I'm fascinated by businesses building for the long term who have real teeth to their strategy in the form of alternative governance and ownership structures. I like to collect these examples of alt ownership structures, on my radar this month are: ?? Vagabond shoes => donating the company to the newly established Vagabond Shoemakers Foundation. ??Yvon Choinard gave away Patagonia to charitable trusts dedicated to climate action last year. ??The King Arthur Flour Co. => 100% employee owned since 2004. ?? Walmart announcement => awarding all US store managers stock as they seek to attract and retain staff. Who've I missed? Who's doing interesting things to build for the long term? I suspect we'll continue to see more of these types of innovative business structures as owners look for ways to bed down long term business sustainability (the environmental kind and the bottom line kind).?
STAKEHOLDER vs. SHAREHOLDER — Owners of Swedish shoe brand Vagabond Shoemakers Marie Nilsson Peterzén and Mats Nilsson, are donating the company to the newly established Vagabond Shoemakers Foundation. The goal: to support a variety of social projects, over the long term. Vagabond Shoemakers Foundation therefore becomes the owner of the brand, and as a result, all company profits will be used for research, education and charitable projects in areas the foundation and brand values highly. Vagabond achieved a consumer value of 1.5 billion Swedish kronor (115.2 million pounds) in 2023 and distributes its products in more than 50 countries. They also have its own design studio. Why now? A decision had to be made about the future ownership structure, which resulted in a "simple choice," Peterzén wrote in the press release. “We have always wanted our successes to support initiatives and projects that are needed in our time. A foundation means the ability to provide continuous and substantial support. It also means a lot to us that the company continues to develop in line with the goals and intentions we have set." Vagabond following in Patagonias noteworthy footsteps — who’s up next? ?? Commerce to fuel Society = Brand Scaled Commerce to fuel Shareholders = Brand Unrealized
