"Can you explain it to me like I'm 5?" - me, for the 2nd time today, to a senior electrical engineer discussing power distribution systems ?? Throwback to when I thought a bus bar was where electrical engineers went for drinks after work. Now I'm actually fascinated by how these simple-looking metal strips can make or break an entire power system. But here's the thing - being comfortable with saying "I don't understand, please explain" has led to the best conversations in my recruiting career. The moment I stopped pretending to know everything, engineers started opening up about what REALLY matters in their work. Just last week, what started as a basic conversation about a role turned into an hour-long discussion about how one engineer redesigned a factory's entire power distribution to prevent brownouts during peak hours. Not going to lie - I was taking notes like a freshman in Engineering 101! ? To my engineering network: Thank you for teaching me that admitting what you don't know is the first step to learning something cool. And to my fellow recruiters: Don't be afraid to be the "least technical person in the room." It's actually your superpower ?? If you're an electrical or mechanical engineer who appreciates working with recruiters who: 1. Ask "stupid" questions because they genuinely want to understand your work 2. Get excited about your technical achievements (even if they don't fully grasp them at first) 3. Value learning about the engineering mindset over making quick placements ...then let's connect! I hadn't taken a nice picture in a while, but yesterday's success gave me a reason to. Yesterday marked our Industrial Training (IT) Defence, and I’m proud to say I was successful! The journey wasn’t easy, but I conquered my fears and overcame my phobia of speaking in front of an audience. As an electrical engineer, I’m passionate about electrifying homes because electricity powers so much of our daily lives. However, software engineering has also become a driving force in my career aspirations. While electrical engineering is an incredible field, my love for software engineering continues to grow. P.S.
