#CommitteeToProtectJournalists says 88 journalists/media workers have been killed in the Israel/Gaza war making it most dangerous conflict for reporters since CPJ started keeping statistics. This story and the fact that the US is ranked 45th in the world in #PressFreedom by #ReportersWithourBorders are my main areas focus as Executive Director for #DemocracyWatchNews. Our steadily declining ranking on the #WorldPressFreedomIndex is one of the most censored news stories of our time. I continue to lobby our elected officials and senior editors at major news organizations to speak out but no one is talking about it. Candidates for US President certainly don't mention our low ranking. Online violence against journalists is increasing exponentially, with women journalists being particularly targeted. One journalist we supported shared her experience and the profound impact it had on her work and life. After a tweet was misrepresented by far-right groups, a young Indian investigative journalist*, faced thousands of violent threats as part of a coordinated online smear campaign. As a result, she lost her job and had to go into hiding to avoid arrest. Her experience illustrates the severe and tangible effects of digital attacks on journalists and the broader implications for freedom of expression. ??Read her story: bit.ly/4b6T5N6 ?? I'm afraid I have to disagree; it is time to curb bullying, harassment and victimisation. #HateSpeech How will the law ever curb bullying when those at the top are traumatised themselves and nurture bullying themselves? #AntiBullying #AntiCorruption #IOPT The world is being taken over by political bullies, mobsters, harassers and victimisers. I suggest a new self-awareness strategy where I challenge myself and others with dignity and respect. Bullies are cowards.
