Music for better focus? Over the last year, I have noticed that I can focus better and work faster when I listen to electronic music - like the one below. It's the latest gem I have discovered. This is especially true for longer stretches of focused work on texts or building a structure for a website. The music energizes me and carries me through the tasks. “The right choice of music, such as instrumental or ambient music, can help block out distractions, improve concentration, and maintain attention during study sessions.” This quote is from an article on "The Benefits of Listening to Music When Studying" published by the University of Maryland. An important insight I've had (rather: I'm having) while composing comedic music for Gloops is this: LIGHTER = FUNNIER. LIGHTER, in music, means many things, for example: - More silences - Less instruments (soloists instead of big orchestral sections) - Softer loudness levels - Higher frequencies (less bass) - Simpler, shorter melodies and gestures - Shorter durations (short notes, less sustain) - Smaller spaces (less and smaller rooms)... - Smaller instruments Being more of a maximalist, it's been challenging to try and reduce things, but I'm getting there. I recently re-scored this clip for a more recent variation, and I implemented some of these things: V1 = lower-pitched melody, more complex gesture when falling and sitting V2 = higher-pitched melody, simpler gesture, less bass, added some small, quirky hand percs https://lnkd.in/d8c7szU2 https://lnkd.in/dHGNdXyH
