Here it is! My findings from the Margate Artist Almanac ?? Margate’s creative scene has been shifting dramatically over the past few decades, but who are the artists and organisations coming in and out of the town? The Margate Artist Almanac is about celebrating who’s here, and taking a deeper dive into what they do. As the town’s artist population ebbs and flows, the Almanac is about starting a conversation and documenting who’s who. Led by artists, the Almanac is a non-commercial project that seeks to provide an on-going historic snapshot, database and resource for artists, creatives and organisations. Artquest is supporting Whitechapel Gallery’s new, more equitable application and selection process for The London Open Live. With a new procedure for accessible applications, this open call will also use our bespoke online tool to make selection quicker, more transparent, and to help provide more in-depth feedback to applicants. As well as making better applications, optional monitoring will enable Whitechapel to better understand the value of The London Open. Our action research helps make the art world more equitable for artists while finding out about artists working conditions, ambitions and barriers. Volume 11 is coming soon, here’s the editorial for this issue: "Everything changes, and we at NNC Gallery evolve over time, just like our projects. Our magazine is also undergoing a transformation. Starting with this issue, we will introduce new sections. The first will be a column dedicated to advice for artists: our experience and desire to provide concrete support have led us to create a space for this purpose. It will be a sort of coaching journey, aimed at teaching artists how to navigate the era of the web, mass art, and new collectors. What artists are looking for today, perhaps even before exhibitions, are collectors. For centuries, the art market was controlled by a small circle that decided who could be sold and who couldn't. Today, things have changed, but the selection process is still very rigorous. However, this is not the only issue. Moving away from traditional paths has led to the formation of prejudices, urban legends, and insecurities, which often cause talented artists to suffer from what is commonly known as 'imposter syndrome,' thereby sabotaging their own progress. For these reasons, we decided to focus on this aspect and offer our contribution. There are many other new developments in the pipeline, which we will unveil gradually in the upcoming issues. In this issue, we present some of the artists from the collectives we have been following for many years and continue to promote, helping them reach a wider audience. You will also find this month’s featured artist, the special guest, along with the winners of the January 2024 challenge, as well as the selected artists who accepted or declined our challenge. We hope you enjoy reading our magazine/catalog and that you can fully appreciate the contemporary art of these years!" How would a TOP-20 list of digital artists look if it were compiled according to the standards of the contemporary art? If it were based on facts like amount of exhibitions, collaborations with major institutions, publications, and so on. I found an article (I'll leave the link in the comments) where such a ranking was compiled using an algorithm and the Artfacts database. Can you guess who is in first place??? 20. Conversation Pieces, the 2024-25 iteration of the Museum of Arts and Design's annual series Craft Front & Center, examines the relationships among artists in MAD's permanent collection. More than many art forms, craft is collaborative. Its techniques and traditions are passed from teacher to student and from generation to generation, and artists often work together. This exhibition showcases a range of artistic media, most prominently the five traditional craft materials- ceramic, glass, fiber, wood, and metal-and is organized into three overlapping thematic sections. The first section, "Teachers and Students," presents works by artist educators alongside works by their pupils, allowing viewers to see connections and differences between them. It includes artists who studied together at the same academies and workshops, many of whom went on to work together and influence one another throughout their careers. The second, "Collaborations," highlights artists who work collectively, from artist collectives and couples to artists and designers who collaborate with manufacturers. Finally, "Generational Dialogues" features work by many of the founders of studio craft, whose art has been a touchstone for generations of artists, including many younger contemporary artists. Conversation Pieces spans the breadth of MAD's historic and contemporary collections, offering an expansive view of how artists influence, collaborate with, and converse with one another.
